Will The FA Fine United For Fielding Weakened Team?

Just like in 2009, Manchester United have won the title with a game to go, meaning there is the opportunity to rest players before the Champions League final.

On the final day two years ago we played Hull who were in a relegation fight. De Laet, Gibson, Martin, Welbeck and Macheda were amongst the starting line-up but still managed to win 1-0.

The FA have charged both Wolves and Blackpool after playing a weakened team in the league and United should expect the same, particularly if they lose to Blackpool on the final day of the season. If the FA are charging Ferguson for praising a referee, particularly on the same day Carlo Ancelotti did exactly the same but escaped punishment, it’s wishful thinking to expect we’d get away with making changing to our team.

However, it is possible we will play a team very much like the one we fielded in the European Cup semi-final 2nd leg against Schalke. I imagine our lawyers could make a strong enough case for that team being good enough to face Premier League relegation candidates.

Whether we’ll be punished or not, it is clear that the manager is intending to rest players.

“This gives us a real opportunity to look at how we can rest players and who needs to keep going,” said Ferguson. “But we have a responsibility to make sure we are fair to all clubs who are struggling against relegation. Manchester United will try to win next Sunday, there is no doubt about that.”

Fucking stupid rule. Especially in the same season that a 25 man squad rule was enforced.

  2. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning all true REDS

STR, here is something I read on the topic earlier http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/may/16/sir-alex-ferguson-manchester-united-blackpool

If they do fine us I would not be surprised and to be honest would not give a shit and I am sure neither would the club

  3. Heywood is Red says:

    Yes most likely.
    Especiallyif bernstein has a say

  4. CedarsDevil says:

By the way this rule is so pathetic…. You are forced to have a squad of 25 yet we decide who your best 11 are! What a fucking joke

  5. missingOTnowiminoz says:

are we really surprised at the abuFA anymore?? they are not worth commenting on, not worth wasting a vent at them when they are so predictable, every time they fine us, ban our players / manager they are showing themselves how bitter and jealous of UTD they really are, which when they have shitty supporter at the helm is really no surprise.
How can they fine a side that will most likely consist of VDS (i dont think fergie will rest him for 2 weeks in a row or for his last home game), Evans, Smalling, O’shea, Rafael, Gibson, Scholes, Fletcher, Anderson, Berba, Owen…..it won’t be far off that, full of current internationals and the pems top scorer!!

  6. mattbw7 says:

If we lose a fine is inevitable, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Off topic, just came accross this journo on the Glazer debt, more evidence that points to then going nowhere.

  7. BerbaGod says:

Absolutely riduculous who the fuck are they to question what XI we put out, whatever XI we do put out will be good enough to win the game.

  8. sachu says:

    @ cedars devil
    good morning mate
if we start with a 2nd string like against schalke and hammer blackpool 5-0 then can they fine us
thats wat is going to happen
blackpool are going DOWN because for some reason i dont like the name POOL i realy hope thy get hammered may be 10-0

  9. thunder cats says:

no ways dey can charge us. Bullshit FA has no right to decide which players d gaffer selects. Besides I don think our club would give a Fuck abt d charge..

  10. MisterDavid says:

The rule is ridiculous, we know that, but what might make the difference is that unlike most squads, United already have 20 players who have played 10+ games. If the team against Blackpool is made up primarily of those, I can’t see even the FA being able to penalise it.

  11. gerkeo says:

let them fine us, i rekon united will just ignore them as Fergie did with the praising howard webb charge.

  12. sachu says:

does anyone know when is fa youth cup final

  13. Balaji Sivaraman says:

    Good Morning Lads!

Cedars, I read that article too. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if they fined us for using Rafael, Fabio, Fletcher, Anders, Berba, Kusczak, Brown etc. They are all first team players but maybe not our first choice XI. I think if we don’t use the exact team we will use in the Final, they’ll probably fine us because that means we will win the 4th probably.

BTW, did you guys read about Sir Alex totally treating the F.A. with contempt by not even responding to the charge regarding pre-match comments about Webb. I thought that was totally cool. Exactly what the fuckers at the F.A. deserve. It doesn’t matter if they fine us also. Now, it has been proved by Sir Alex that they don’t deserve any sort of respect from anyone. They have nowhere to hide.

  14. CedarsDevil says:

    Hi sachu

I may sound arrogant, but at United we do not have such a thing as a 2nd string! Our squad is full of top quality players…… The PL and FA can go and ……….. fill the space lads :-)

  15. wiuru says:

I cant see the arguement Fergie has consistantly rotated the team through the squad system . Many of our so called 2nd team players are superior to anything other prem clubs have . Its a joke ! just like the FA …..Yes … Im confident we will play to win , And players will be out to prove they are worthy of our squad also assist our winning mentality .
Blackpool etc are where they are because of the season they have had , that is not our fault !

  16. CedarsDevil says:

    Balaji

How are you buddy, a true red nut you are my friend.

Yes I heard about the fact that Sir Alex simply ignored that charge, telling them what a bunch of dick heads they are…. Gotta love the man!

when blackpool got done they lost 3-2 at villa how can you fine a team after a result like that

    bullshit

  19. RED SAM says:

    Amos,

    SHOULD START.

  20. sachu says:

    @ cedars

    can they deduct points

  21. CedarsDevil says:

    sachu

No they cannot, all they can do is fine the club….

MG – Morning mate, on fire again I see… as usual may I add!

  22. Briggsy says:

I don’t think it will be that weak to be honest. VDS will play as it will be his last league game for the club and his last game at Old Trafford.

Smalling and Evans will no doubt play with o’shea and brown.

Scholes, Anderson, Nani, maybe Valencia will make up midfield.

With Berbatov and Owen up front.

Basically all the players who haven’t played much and will have little action time in the European final.

All of which I can see beating Blackpool.

  23. CedarsDevil says:

MG – a billion passes to death!!! Had me in tears you bugger

  24. YorYor says:

Knowing the FA, we’ll get fined even if we play the same team at Blackburn, because it meant United were not sensible enough to rest the players for the CL Final, as it meant reducing the chances of us bringing the trophy back to further boost the FA’s belief that they are strengthening the EPL.
Die if you do, die if you don’t. Wouldn’t be surprised with anything from the FA now.

  25. MG says:

Good Morning Cedars or is it afternoon where you are :D

I do like to please ;)

  26. Northstander says:

Of course they will fine us, this season the FA have continued to issue harsher punishments to Man Utd players and our manager. Even if we field the semi final CL team they will find a loop hole to explain their charge. They have showed a complete lack of consistency in charging other players and managers for the same or similar instances. Only recently Ancelotti has gotten away with his comments about Webb whilst Fergie gets charged and Balotelli, well the press and the FA have completely ignored the fact that he swore during his post match interview, not only violating law 12 but surely bringing the FA Cup in to disripute. It no longer surpises me what punishments the FA hand out.

On another note, whilst I don’t want Blackpool to spoil our party, I do hope they stay up. Holloway amuses me and I am glad he didn’t go through with his threat of quitting when the FA charged Blackpool for fielding a weakened team.

  27. MG says:

    YorYor

I understand what you are saying but wrong choice of words

die if you do die if you don’t

    No – still standing.

  28. CedarsDevil says:

MG – 8 minutes into the afternoon my friend………

    Anyone seen Andy?

  29. MG says:

    Cedars

No but I believe Andy has started a campaign that Manchester United are not going to win the league next season

That is of course after he is holding talks telling everyone that Barca will thrash United :D

    Andy Townsend – A gift from God ;) Truly…

  30. man_utd_19 says:

The FA are involved here… therefore it should be obvious we’re gonna get fined.
A fuckin joke of an association and a fuckin joke of a rule

  31. Costas says:

Oh no doubt. The FA are cunts.

But whose to say which United team is weak? A team consisting of Van Der Sar, O’Shea, Brown, Smalling, Rafael, Anderson, Scholes, Fletcher, Park, Berbatov and Owen. Those are 11 current or ex internationals right there. That team is weak?

  32. parryheid says:

NAH,somebody realizes Bernsteins bringing them to much grief.

  33. Gorse Hill Red says:

So now Bernstein wants to pick our players does he? Does the fool not understand that our ‘first’ team would not be interested due to the risk on injury before the Champions League final and the fringe players will be up for it to cement a position in the squad?

This would never happen in any other country.

  34. Kings says:

Of course they will fine us because they are fucking cunts who are always looking to fuck us over. Actually no, they will probably give us a massive points deduction and give the trophy to Chelsea or even City on Sunday! We have registered 25 players and we are utilising our squad. So my message to them is: Go fuck yourselves you sons of bitches.

  35. King Eric says:

Not our fucking problem. Its up to the other teams to sort themselves out and not rely on the league winners. Piss take. Can anyone sincerely say Scholes, Berba, Owen et al are weaker players? Silly fucking rule made up by those incompetent fuckwits at the FA. Like the way they have swept the Balotelli swearing under the carpet. Fucking cunts the lot of them.

  36. King Eric says:

sachu – Youth Cup Final first leg tonight mate.

  37. Costas says:

    We should play Bebe. :)

  38. hammons says:

Those dickheads 25K fine wont touch the amount of money we are set to make WHEN, not if, we win against Barcelona.

  39. T4M says:

    fuck the FA

  40. Bishopville Red says:

The FA and EPL will be the first ones to step in front of United’s CL victory and claim that it’s their competition that make United so good. But that won’t stop them from trying to get into yet another pissing match with our Fergie to try to show him they’re boss.

    SB

  41. shebangsthedrums says:

What about Fletcher, he’s likely to play and he is a first team regular but for his recent virus. It’s a stupid rule, why do the premier league chiefs think they know what any teams best eleven is. I’m sure it’s the premier league not the FA who implement this rule, otherwise we’d get fined in every domestic competition as we always make changes for the cup games.

  42. Ridiclus says:

As far as i am concerned there is no such thing as a starting 11 i cannot remember the last time SAF played the same 11 for 2 games in a row.
if you look at at the rest of the teams in the league you will more than likely see that is the same case, that no manager has played the same team for mre than 2 games.its a joke rule

I know sme people are calling it a ridiclus rule but i swear to you it has nothing to do with me

  43. orez says:

I don’t care TBH I don’t want Blackpool to be relegated. They really need to do something against us.

  44. The Scottish Wonder says:

Kuz, Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Evans, Nani, Scholes, Anderson, Fletcher, Owen, Berba

Wes, Gibbo and youngsters ont he bench

this team looks really good even though none of the probable starting 11 at wembley is in the squad

(the squad depth and the depth of quality is the reason we won the title and are in the cl final)

  45. musvn says:

I couldn’t care less to what FA has to do really. The worst case scenario, we’ll be fined few grands. Though I do have sympathy for whoever get relegated because of our result. However, our second string team is still very good with Berba, Smalling, Brown, Gibbo, Nani, etc. Should be no problem.

  46. bill bob says:

If United get beat on Sunday, after Fielding a weakened team, United we be fined, although can’t grasp the reason if a club as to offer a team sheet of 25 players.

Having said that, precedent have be set…. with Wolves & Blackpool.

  47. Deepest Red says:

Greetings, Earth Reds. News of your plight has reached my admittedly somewhat large ears, so let’s apply a little Vulcan logic here.
    1) F.A. would fine us for what Fergie’s been doing all season? Well, why now?
    2) As has been mentioned, who are the F.A. to decide our best side? Is it the team who struggled against Blackburn, or the allegedly weaker side who clinched the match against Schalke?
    3) If you’re fined for fielding a weak side, everyone should receive a fine if they send on a substitute for any reason other than injury. Otherwise, the substitution is clearly to strengthen the team, ergo the strongest one didn’t start the match.
Seriously, if we get a fine the lawyers should take it all the way. Doesn’t matter if it costs 1 or 2 million, that’s nothing compared with being robbed of the league like last season, or – worst case scenario – missing out on top 4. The F.A. anti-United bias is getting a tad out of hand. And by the way, I am mid-fifties, house-owner, respectable member of society etc. Not some kid saying Oh, the FA HATE us, it’s, like, so unfair. I really think they are anti-United. And it wants stopped, as The Great One might say

  48. bchilds says:

I think United are nailed on to be fined, the FA are trying to fuck with us so yes we will be fined!

On the rule itself, I think that any combination of players used in the 25 man squad should be adequate, if you start playing local amateurs then that’s fine but no punishment should be made for members of the 25 man squad.

  49. Richard says:

It seems that the FA would fine MU for farting wrong.

  50. NobbysTeeth says:

Id put out the weakest side possible to take the piss outta the FA then just pay the fine and fuck em!

  51. Joe says:

I reckon SAF should start like he said he would :-P would be well funny.. also have Berba in net and Van Der Sar up front.

    just fuck about with it.

Even if we put a reserve side out I think we’ll still beat them.
