Fact is he isnt world class. I love the fella..got a great eye, great passing and vision. But aint world class. Why Not???

1. Ok lumpolard may not come across as a world beater to many…but he like gerrard like essien like fibre glass drive their team from centre midfield. I mean drive…box to box running…jinking….shooting.

2. All of those players get stuck in and are seen at their respective clubs as leaders. Carrick isnt our leader…gerrard captain, lumpolard vice captain, fibre glass captain. Carrick is a very neat and tidy effective player. but he isnt going to drive us on.

3. Neither could he or can he win us games like the other 3 or 4. And they do win games for their clubs with their goals. And thats so important for carrick to be world class he has to score goals which he plainly doesnt. The other guys score 15 -20 every season. Scholesy used to in his pomp. To be world class from centre mid you have to score and win 3 or 4 games by yourself. Like the others do for their teams. I mean c’mon schosley keano used to win games on their own. Carrick AS OF YET CANNOT DO THAT.

4. So goals are important. Yes again i will re-iterate…i love michael…but if he was world class…then he’d be talked about like the others…he’d be an international starter and not on the fringes or sub at national level. Capello aint stupid….even he said that carrick has to step up a level to be first choice.

5. On the other hand carrick aint a marauder either. Keano wasnt technically gifted.
But i saw him and captain marvel robbo in their pomp….and fuck sake they were world class….shouting bawling…ready for a broken leg to win for the team….hence they had so many injuries. Absolute warriors and machines…like they were in a war…blood guts thunder…box to box fighters. Carrick doesnt fit into that either…way tooooo quiet.

For me the centre mid position is the most important. The position every player has to look to. Most times the captain plays there…the link between the defence and attack…the man people look too for inspiration for bombing for drive when the chips are down. And im sorry our present centre mid DOES NOT HAVE THAT. At this present moment with ronaldo histrionics and rooney indiscipline…..we need a keano…a robbo to wield the hammer…SAF has mellowed the hairdryer from his younger days. Hence he can only do things up to the white line. When things go pear shaped ON the pitch…we need THAT player who with THAT look in the eye can bollock and whip them into shape and single handedly win us the games…..Keano and Robbo did that. They instilled their fear into the team. Dipper stevie me….lumpolard..essien…fibre glass can and have done that for thier teams. As of yet without hargo….we dont have that.

No ones blaming carrick or questioning him for our slump. That slump is mostly down to ineptness at the back, lethargy up top and complacency. The point was when that happens it s the engine room that has to kick in….and we miss a certain drive and boom boom in that dept. Cos no matter how tidy a player and how much potential carrick has to become world class. He is not for my money world class yet.

And that term world class is thrown about like confetti these days.

Bet this is the first international break that Sir Alex was happy to see. A chance to take a deep breath, before the final push!

I understand they make poor decisions against us but why do we waste time arguing with them? I’ve never seen a referee change his mind on the pitch after having some scream at him!

We should be telling our players to stop worrying about the ref and his assistants and just get up and get on with the game. Even the fact that we’re now discussing the refs and not the poor quality of our football is a bit pointless!

The simple fact is in our last 2 games we haven’t played well at all. Too many players were under par in both games and we need to address why they were. I think we really need to get Ronaldo playing well again. As much as he can infuriate us I think if he really gets his finger out and starts producing performances like last year it will lift the rest of the team. Surely Fergie must know some way to motivate him! This is time for our big players to stand up and be counted, if they don’t we could well ended up with nothing more than the Carling cup to show for this season!! I think we will definitely get good a response against Villa.

About the midfield, it’s been good but hardly overwhelming. Fletcherinho has been the best, most consistent player and, saying that, is damning the others with faint praise. Essien might be too rich – and too unobtainable – but I am not so sure about di Rossi; he might be Roma through and through but a few years ago Wayne Rooney was Everton born and bred. Roma are something of a spent force and di Rossi might fancy a real challenge for real honours and, who knows, he might just fancy Lancashire hot pot and rain.

About O’Shea – he’s not the problem; he’s actually been something of a solution to a potentially disastrous situtation at right back. He might not be the first, second, or third choice but I’m bloody glad that he’s there and not Eckersley or Danny Simpson (I know, he’s on loan at Blackburn).
