Would You Want Benzema Now Anyway?

Benzema kiss Real Madrid badge

The deal for Karim Benzema was painfully close to go through in the summer, until Real Madrid offered more money and the striker made it clear he wanted a move to Spain.

Benzema was paraded around the Bernabeu, kissing his badge as he went, talking about how this was a dream come true.

United then opted to bring Michael Owen in on a free, disappointed not to land the big money signing after selling Cristiano Ronaldo for £80 million.

Since his £35million move, Benzema has scored just five goals, two less than Owen has for United, and has failed to make anywhere near the impression on the fans as Ronaldo has.

Guillem Balague reported yesterday that Florentino Perez is considering selling Benzema in January before the player’s valuation drops too far below the £35million they paid.

If this report is true, however far-fetched it might seem, would you be interested?

There’s no doubt he’s a great talent but he had the chance to join us and rejected it. On the upside, the dream would be dead and at 21-years-old, he wouldn’t be hankering after joining Real Mardid like Ronaldo was when he was with us.

Michael Owen is a red he hates scousers t-shirt

I’m not sure I would. He seems to be a bit like a spoilt brat, as all the Real Madrid players end up being after a while. I think we have enough strikers. A creative midfielder wouldn’t go amiss.

  2. Alex says:

Fergie would get the best out of him. I would take him for no more than £15million, tops.

Thing is, there just is not a decent, available player out there at the moment. David Villa is the only one but his value will skyrocket after the World Cup.

David Silva is not worth the hype. Would rather have Obertan!

But as I say if we can get Benzema on the cheap then maybe….

  3. Dakota says:

No need..there is no way he can cope up with the physical game of the Premier league..he’ll start weeping if he plays against teams like Bolton..

  4. JW says:

He’s cup tied, so unless its below 20m I wouldn’t even consider it. Anyway, I would really question the loyalty of any player who would want to move after only just 6 months, so the odds are against him.

  5. Dakota says:

    the pansy fuck!

  6. theboogeyman says:

Never really wanted him in the first place, so I’m pretty happy with him at Madrid.

  7. Stand up for the Red Army says:

Hes not United material, besides theres no room for him, other than the 3 main strikers we got Danny and Kiko as backup, we are fine as it is.

  8. Xyth says:

    Thanks but no thanks!

  9. stretford972 says:

depends on how much. His problem at real is that they want to use him as an out and out striker, which he ain’t. Also raul doesn’t like him. Personally, i’d rather go for higuain over benzema who the hierarchy don’t like much either coz he was a calderon signin

  10. mancstan says:

Not sure. I know that as a foreign player there is nothing that says players should beg to play for United, etc, but was never sure what the fuss was in the first place. As has been seen with Huntlear, not that great a player when all said and done.

Maybe look to spend in Defence, or world class central midfield player.

If under 20M maybe, but not bothered.

  11. Brian G says:

Ignore any attemps to pass him off to United. He has proven unworthy of the fee, (His dream team) Real MADrid paid for him.

Best bargain during the last transfer was SAF master stroke freebie Michael Owen who safely saw us through to the next Chapions League round with a beautifully take hat trick.

  12. aig alex is god says:

i may get slated for this. But why not? i wont mind it. madrid are known for buying talented players and wasting them.look at van der vaart, fernando gago, drenthe.only one who is doing well is Higuain. Fergie knows how to get the best out of talented players and the fact that he wanted benzema means he knows Benzema can do well at the top level under proper guidance. However after Owens performacne against Wolfsburg with Rooney scoring for fun and Berba back to fitness, i dont think he is needed now. A summer move seems seems more probable

  13. so it goes says:

We got the strikers but they are not getting enough service so let’s put the money in the midfield.

  14. Island Red says:

    No

I’ve never rated Benzema, I’ve always said he was shite and I’m happy I’m being proved right.

    Eczema is better than Benzema.

  15. Redbeard says:

If Fergie actually wanted the lad it was because he saw him as a good fit for the team. The Fascists only bought him because they were buying anyone they could get with a big reputation, not because he was the kind of player they needed, so it stands to reason that Fergie would probably get more out of him than Madrid have.

That being said, the lad had a chance to come here but chose to go to Spain instead. Fair enough, it’s his choice to make, but Man United is no place for players who would rather be somewhere else.

I could think of worse ways to spend the money (Tevez!).

  16. devil@singapore says:

nope, not for me. he had è chance to join ê greatest club in é world & he prefer elsewhere. so a definetly no. how would kiko & welbeck feels….

  17. United4eva says:

£35 million!?! He wasn’t worth it in the summer he isn’t worth it now. On the cheap maybe but no way should we spend big money on Galacticants.

  18. King Eric says:

    Morning

Would I fuck be interested now. I would hate to see this greedy cunt at United, after kissing the badge of the fascists and acting the big man.

Great to see Fergie rubbishing the Sol rumours and also confirming its bollocks that he has no money to spend.

  19. Emmanu Daktari. says:

Never ever,,he rejected a move to united,.he went 4 his dream team and now its downfall,.after united alwaz xpect a downfall…fuck off benzema!

  20. Red Devil says:

My head says yes…..the guy is strong, pacy and very direct….i still remember his goal against us from a year or so ago. Very impressive play, which is what prompted Sir Alex to want him.

But after the summer my heart says NO….Fuck off to Madrid and ruin your career, twaz your dream innit?

  21. King Eric says:

aig – Hi mate. You would really take him at United? After turning us down and kissing the badge of those fuckers and acting the big I am? Not for me mate.

  22. BlackBabyJesus says:

    I don’t think so.
    Dzeko please!

  23. King Eric says:

Also quite surprised that people still want a midfielder. We have more than enough in that position. All good players too. Especially with Scholesy playing the best football of his career in years. Maybe in the summer if he calls it a day.

  24. Red phil says:

    Nah, he made his bed.

  25. aig alex is god says:

    King Eric

    Hi mate.Good Morning.

Dont get me wrong.i know he turned us down and went to Madrid but i think in reality he did not know what to do and the Zidane factor and the signings of Ron and Kaka helped convince him that real is the right option.Zidane played a huge role in landing him.The main thing he forgot was Madrid are not really known for having patience with playes and giving them time. Just a 21 year old not knowing what is best for him and narrow minded thinking led him into making the wrong decision.

  26. Evra's biggest fan says:

Question – does anyone actually believe anything this Guillem Balague guy says?

He has been saying for months that united are on the verge of signing villa and silva… he got ronaldo to madrid right but… come on? my nan could of told the world that!

  27. Its in my blood says:

    No.
Not unless he did some serious grovelling, declared to the world that his first choice was always United, that he now knows that the biggest club in the world is United, costs less than £20m and offered me his missus for the occasional weekend.

  28. Costas says:

This isn’t about him being a fan or Real or whatever club he supports. He has stated in the past that he wants to play in Spain. If he came to United it wouldn’t be because he wants to play for us. It would just be a money issue.

  29. schmikes1 says:

i wouldn’t see the harm in it to be honest, as he is at the perfect age to make an instant impact. he is not yet the finished article but already has pace and power, coupled with a bloody good finish. he outmuscled vidic to power in a sweet strike from outside the box against us in our best season for years so he can’t be too bad. with owen and berba undoubtedly great players but not exactly spring chickens, benzema would provide goals for the present and for the future. as for welbeck n kiko, well they are two or three years away from regular first team action and in all likelihood will probably spend a season or so away on loan before they make their major breakthrough. so for no more than £25m, I think benzema would be a good purchase. he’s as good as aguero and has the potential to be better than villa, both of which would cost around £40m…cashback!

  30. Wazza says:

    Noooo wayy…
First of all, paying 35 million for him now is ridiculous…
We shouldnt be looking at him. Not after fergie said that he doesn’t want to bring in any other strikers after owen and make berba feel insecure. We might have bought him, had we not bought owen or any striker in the summer but not now. Not even for a much lesser asking price. We have a big enough squad, the injuries to the defenders notwithstanding, and there is enough competition for places already. It makes no sense to bring in benzema now. We get owen to deliver the goods for much less. And after 2-3 years(worst case) when owen dies out, we will have welbeck n macheda to step up, fully ready.

  31. Boony says:

Gignac is a better player than Benzema, he’s even keeping him out the France team.. I was delighted we didn’t sign him in the summer, and there’s no way Fergie would entertain this badge kissing bellend again…

  32. brett1985 says:

He is better than some people on here think but I still would not want him.

  33. Tony Starks says:

Don’t know why people are concerned at badge kissing etc… This is the real world people, I don’t think there are many players in the world who don’t play for money so let’s not kid ourselves about that.

Don’t see what’s wrong with getting him if the price is reasonable (like 15M or so). The kid is good, but it’s impossible for a young player to develop at a stuipid club like Real where you are under pressure from day 1.

  34. bigphil2003 says:

He’s not exactly lit up the Madrid team but I still think he will be a quality striker. However after turning United down once I don’t think we should go for him. Especially when Dzeko is available at half the price.

  35. Bob Koh says:

Benzema has hurt my feelings by not joining us when he could, so, no, I hope Fergie is small-minded like me & not sign him. We have Valencia & Obertan! Merci!

  36. Tony Starks says:

    Evra’s biggest fan..

I don’t beleive the guy at all, he sounds like one of them journo’s who think they know everything.. Besides all he’s saying is Benzema might be available, but I would be shocked (in a good way) if Alex Ferguson went for him again.

  37. giornalista says:

a creative midfielder would be more welcomed. we have enough strikers and Benzema isn’t worth the money he would cost.

  38. kaihnsn says:

If virus willing to accept 1M pound for him and he agree to take 10k cheque per week i got no problem for him to play in carling cup.

  39. Dre says:

Trust me. If united showed interest and then outta nowhere barca comes out and say they want him, he would turn his arse to us faster than a bat out of hell. NO.

  40. ashhotjet90 says:

He would be a great signing but i had rather United go for Dzeko . He is perfect for United and would be a great signing , but an arrival also means a departure , so if Dzeko is coming , then one of Berbat or Owen have to leave .

  41. schmikes1 says:

Boony, i like Gignac but he seems like a bit of a flash-in-the -pan player to me, France’s equivalent of a Carlton Cole or Darren Bent; delivers to a decent standard at club level, has 1 or 2 rip-roaring seasons but will never exceed mediocrity. Gignac is big, powerful and finsihes well, especially when running at the last man but Benzema is in another class. He can’t be berated for his Madrid performances as he doesn’t start every game and is still settling in. I reckon if we were to go for him, either now or in the future, he would be an awesome player. He wouldn’t just be scoring the third or fourth in an OT battering of Stoke, Burnley, Bolton etc, he would make a positive difference in crucial away games at the Bridge and Anfield. His finishing is first class and he’s also a cretaive spark, similar in some ways to our Wayne, just with a bit more pace.

  42. daniyal says:

once bitten twice shy… dont want him to reject us again in jan because some other club offer more for him compared to us…

and i never rated this player ever.. cup tied means his value will dip..

    enough strikers for us…

    no thanks…

  43. King Eric says:

ashhot – If Dzeko comes Berba or Owen to leave? What is the point of that? As I say it was probably an off night but to be honest Dzeko does nowt for me, unless we want to go back to the boring crosses in the box with a big striker on the end of it? At the moment United are difficult to play against as the goals are coming from all over the pitch. Anyway if he cannot terrorise Fletch and Carrick as a back two then………………..

  44. brett1985 says:

I want to get ripped in 4 weeks.

  45. JD says:

Madrids a circus. Hype expectation through the roof, players like Gods over there. Not a place for a young developing talent, or progression. They want the final goods from the first kick. Huntelaar had little to offer, now hes at Milan he’s had quiet start to season on the bench mostly but just scored a lovely double in extra time, one being a delightful Cantona-esque chip! Maybe he’ll be great value afterall, and maybe same would apply to Benzema.

BUT it’s not that relevant to United as we seem to be doing allright up front. If anything I’d love to see a tall towering strong striker, who can do the Drogba bit with longballs and holding it up, Berbatov does it with his feet not his chest, Rooneys a little too small!

  46. King Eric says:

brett – So do I pal, I have just put my order in. What posseses these fucking beefcakes to behave the way they do?

  47. rooninho says:

we have a bunch a midfielders starting in our back four. does benzema play centre half?

seriously, do we really need him at this point? he rejected united in the first place for his dream move. i suppose michael owen did that as well when he signed on for some other team as a young lad, and he has worked hard to remove that stain from his career- so in that sense why not if he could make our attack more lethal?

i reckon if we could take him off madrid at a cut rate and then fergie builds him up into a top world player, that would be a wonderful slap in the face to madrid. but come on, united need defenders right now anyway.

  48. Dani says:

No Benzema, I’m a fan of his football, but he should f4ck off. Dzeko seems like a great player. And since we are speculating let’s go after Hamsik and Oezil. Rooney, Berba, Owen and the kids can handle the goals.

  49. MU for life says:

    Definitely a ‘no’ but Cristiano

  50. guidedbyunited says:

Keep him away from Old Trafford. Mind you one of his very few goals was on a rebound from Ronaldo’s miss. So make it four goals he has scored. Not worth it. Want to spend the money on a striker we kind of don’t need, sign Dzeko.

  51. Hidup MU says:

I would prefer Rafael Vander Vaart out of all the madrid outcasts. RVV is what we are lacking in midfield.

  52. Toby says:

I’d take benzema now, as hes only 21 and awesome where as owen is 30 and awesome.

  53. Fze123 says:

-Wanted him in the summer, felt disapointed he chose the fascists. He had a chance to join us, but blew it away. Made the wrong decision.
-35 million is way too much. They won’t sell him for less than that, they’re already drowning in debt.
-We have Owen, Berba, Rooney, Welbeck, Macheda. More than enough quality.
-If there is one player Fergie should go for, it’s Modric. Not because I think we don’t have enough quality in midfield, but he would be great at utd.

  54. trevorc says:

    Lads,

The problem with Benzema is not how good he is its how he is being used.

There is one thing that i love about fergie is that he gives players time! He gives them enough rope to hang themselves if they arnt up to the task.

Take Robbie Keane at Liverpool. Simply not given the chance.

For me any striker needs time to settle at a club, some are lucky to hit it running. Some can handle the pressure some cant!

Srikers for me more than any position rely on Confidence, when its high the goals are flowing when its not no goals are scored and many chances missed!…….

I have watched benzema many many times and this lad has big qualities, all he needs is the right club, the right manager and more experience at the top level!

Will he get it at real?.. I dont think he will, as long as they have ronaldo!

  55. SteniS says:

All this badge-kissing is making me sick.

  56. letranger0 says:

I’d take him for anything less than £30m. His talent and potential haven’t magically disappeared in the last few months. Him and Rooney would form one of the best strike partnerships in Europe for years to come.

  57. CROoney says:

that Guillem Balague is so full of imagination

first he says that torres’ searching houses around manchester, now this

perez is not an idiot to sell a highly talented player after only 6 months in the club…i never rated him THAT highly though

  58. united_devils89 says:

nope no way we should go after benzema
he had a chance to come here and he did not
united is not the place for madrid rejects. he may be good but he wanted to go to spain now let him stay there
i’d rather that we gave more time on the pitch to kiko and danny than have him here

  59. Ashish says:

If someone like Benzema happens to come in the future, that would mean the end for the likes of Welbeck and Macheda. But do I want him?Actually, not really as we seem to be doing fairly well at the moment.

  60. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Did you know that Karim Benzema is French for overpriced Micheal Owen
I was shocked to read this fact but it’s true. Also when it comes to kissing a badge on the chest, I don’t like it99% of the time. Rooney to the everton fans to say once a blue always a red Neville to the dippers to say fuck you are all in context and make sence, but to me there are 3 player that play for united that could get away with scoring a run of the mill goal and kiss the badge that’s born and bred united wes brown sir ryan giggs and united>england Paul scholes. I cant imagine any of the doing it thou

  61. denton davey says:

It would depend on how he would mesh with Wayne Rooney because, to be honest, the Rooney/Berbatov axis hasn’t worked out yet.

SAF was willing to subordinate Rooney to Ronaldo, who is a better attacker if not a better all-round footballer. Benzema would, similarly, have to be “subordinated” to bring out more from Rooney. Does Benzema have the front-man mentality – like, say David Villa or LittleMikey or, going back a bit, LouisLouisHaHa ?

There’s no question that Benzema has talent – he showed us that a few years ago in the CL – but is he the right fit ? Would he be a better purchase at 21 for, say, thirty million than David Villa at 29 for, say, forty million ? Not having a crystal ball, the answer to that question would seem to be obvious BUT the real answer is which one can deliver the goods ?

Don’t forget, it’s a question with a HUGE up-side – the winner of the EPL gets about fifty million in prize money; the winner of the CL gets about forty million. Getting the right answer pays off the purchase price of either player immediately. I think that that way of looking at things makes Villa’s age less relevant in considering the outlay – win the CL once, and he’s essentially paid for his own transfer. The un-asked question would be: if SAF did purchase Benzema/Villa, where would that leave Dimmy ?

For what it’s worth, I’d rather trust in KikoTheKid’s future and spend a million on EmileIvanhoeHeskey as a stop-gap – he has a lot of EPL experience, he’s played with both Owen and Rooney AND they’ve thrived when playing with him. With someone like Heskey, there would be no time wasted on “moving home” or “home-sickness” or “learning the language” because he could hit the ground plodding in a familiar set-up.

Another benefit of buying Heskey – and, Heskey in particular – would be that it would give SAF much more flexibility in terms of formations. Using Heskey in front of Berbatov and Rooney would give a formation like the one Don Fabio has used for Ingerland; using Heskey with Owen would be another alternative scenario.

Heskey isn’t a great all-round footballer but – what the hell – Dunga manages the best national team in the world and he can still find a use for an old cart-horse like Gilberto Silva to anchor his midfield. There have to be better midfielders than Gilberto SIlva but there’s no one who can provide what he does – experience and “the invisible wall”, which protects his central defenders and gives his two compatriots in midfield liberty and licence to do their thing.

If we’ve learned anything this past few weeks with the defensive injuries, it’s all about getting a team to work together. It’s not just about putting eleven great players on the field and telling them to “do it”. I’m a huge fan of Fletcherinho – because he is very similar to the great, great, great Rino Gattuso – but I would never tell you that Fletcherinho is a fantastic all-around footballer. He is a consummate team player and it is his presence that binds the other, individual elements together – in the same way that Keane-o led by his sheer determination, even though he was hardly the best or most-skilled footie player on his team.

So, to get back to the main point, I’m not sure that Benzema – or even David Villa – would be a useful, mid-season acquisition. I am sure that they would each cost a lot of money. And I wouldn’t spend that money unless I was sure that the two birds-in-the-bush would be better than the one that I could easily get in my hand.

  62. giggs11gerrard0 says:

I personally would take him, the whole badge kissing issue makes me laugh! I was embarrassed for Alan Smith when he did it at Old Trafford. Like GHTT states above one club players have the right like Scholes, Giggs etc.

What would concern me about Benzema though is that he was not even 3rd or 4th choice striker in the french team? You have to ask why?

  63. Eli @ Eli Shares says:

I think SAF will spend for strikers anymore because we have more than enough. His move to United will affect the strikers negatively especially Berbatov and Owen. It might also affect the growth of Kiko and Welback.

Furthermore, I don’t see the need of an additional striker because Owen, Kiko and Welback prove themselves capable.

SAF should think of pulling Da Leat from the Reserves into the first team.

  64. denton davey says:

On a totally-different subject – there’s a great article on the Guardian Online which asks if Michael Carrick can become “the new Maldini” ? Real food for thought.

  65. Berbatovs' love life says:

the argument that we shouldnt buy Benzema because it will stunt the development of kiko and welbeck is foolish. You really think we should not by a 21 year old full international with loads more talent than both of them so we can develop 2 youth team players…Fergie said he would have bought him for 25-30 mil last summer and if he is available in that range we didnt spend the money elsewhere

that being said, he is not leaving Madrid….

  66. Redbeard says:

Could we swap him for Nani?

  67. Redbeard says:

    @ Denton Davey

Can you post the link, mate?

  68. Tony Starks says:

Isn’t it so refreshing that the United fans on here actually don’t want signings! Not saying I agree with that but its really nice to see. We must be the only club in the world who has fans like this…

  69. MUFCOKMANC says:

Ability wise he has it all, i think he’s a very good player especially for his age.

But the fact money talks to him puts me off, he had the chance to join United and chose a big money move to madrid (fair enough i can see the draw and he prefers to play out of england) so he’s had his chance and i doubt he’d be loyal to us so whats the point of playing 20 mil + for a player who would probably want a move out of england after a few seasons.

  70. King Eric says:

Berbatov’s love life – More talent? Thats debatable anyway. He is a good two or three years older than Kiko or Wellbeck so that argument does not work. Some mercenary arrogant cunt or a lad from longsight Manchester? Wellbeck for me.

Giggs 11gerrard0 – I don’t think him not being in the French team is in spite of his talent, just the fact the manager is clueless.

  71. Eli @ Eli Shares says:

    @Berbatovs’ love life
Yea, of course it will stunt the development of Kiko and Welback. Because these two youngsters need more match experience. Benzema won’t progress that well if he keeps being a substitute or just playing for local cup games. Same goes to both Kiko and Welback.

It’s even hard for those two to compete for the first eleven squad on league match unless Rooney, Owen and Berbatov are injured or need of rest.

Well, this is just my point of view. Cheers mate~

  72. John Ferry says:

Benzema ? There are better pimple creams out there. Lets be patient.

  75. jespermoses says:

No,He refused to join us in the first place….dont want sloppy seconds!

  76. kel says:

It’s a no. I know if he leaves, he had no dream of playing for his dream anymore. But he reject once and no way i would take him. We had pride and i don’t think Sir Alex will buy him too.

  77. kel says:

    @Eli @ Eli Shares
Yes i agree. But imagine what if all our first team strikers are injured and we are playing the finals of Champions League? You trust welbeck and macheda to score? If the players is good, i believe even in the reserves team, he could still catch the manager eye. They are still young and should play more with reserves and train with first team. Slowly when the chances comes, we can see how they grab it with their hand. If they are good, then when there is some rare starts for them, then they will grab it and impress. No wories about having too many talents.

  78. Shimo says:

He can’t come to United in Jan – the can’t play for 3 clubs in under a year thingie.

Plus I don’t want the twat – should dream of playing for United and he would be a disruptive influence. Hope he gets kicked in the jimmy.

  79. rooney the new king says:

@ King Eric well they did say the titanic could never sink and we all know what happened there so the unthinkable should happen and he comes, look at alan smith and owen who would have thought we would sign them 2. the question is ppl are we a church for twats who are only willing to come here because their fav club want to throw you out like last nights pork chops and say come aboard the calm ship.

@- or are we a club who say you know what why should we give you a chance because you decided you were to good to come to us, and we think we are to good to sign a mercenary overated young player who thinks he or they were better than he or they actually are.

I dont want anyone coming in now that will disrupt a comy dressing room and people now think benzama is a second striker where he likes to drop deep, ppl we dont need benzama and sign another real madrid fan. I dont want another cristiano ronaldo drama if he comes good he wants to go to madrid because his current club are not big enough for his ego.

  80. Red Army says:

No! this guy is overrated, and if we do get him United should not pay more than 15 million. i believe Owen is just as good as he is. now that hes career is going bad he expects Fergie to save him ? well you should’ve joined United when you had the chance.

  81. Fze123 says:

    John Ferry, lmao

  82. King Eric says:

theboogeyman – Cheers for the Carrick link. Like Denton has said Carrick could make an excellent sweeper later in his career or even now in certain games . I actually liked the 3-5-2 formation the other night with 2 decent wingbacks either side. Not gonna go on about it as the article and denton more than cover it. Some of the bitter clueless comments you see on any topic to do with United make me sick. So fucking blinkered, they can never give credit when its due. Idiotic comments such as “he is another Fergie flop. What a waste of 16 million. Ha HA HA”. Why do people bother posting such shit, inarticulate, pointless threads? Morons.

  83. sanj says:

@King Eric, I saw that exact same comment. Pathetic. Carrick joined United, then helped us to 3 consecutive league titles, European glory, and another European final. How is that a flop? That poster is either a bitter, a dipper, or a rentboy… somehow it seems as though all their flops have slipped through the cracks… Lescott for over 20 mil!? Gotta be a joke. Robinho will jump ship at the first opportunity he gets. Rafa’s transfers are a joke in themselves (funny how Torres doesn’t seem like such a great signing when he makes Louis Saha look like the Iron Man), and the Rentboyz have to illegally sign players to get them to come to Chelsea. Laughable.

  84. sanj says:

And at the topic at hand, f*ck Benzema. Let the prick rot with the fascists and see how his dream turns out. We are Manchester United, we are not some second tier club that desperately needs players. You either want to play here or you don’t. And if you don’t, no harm done, because there are 10 other players who will gladly step in and rise to the occasion.

  85. rooney the new king says:

king eric and sanj who eactly said this about fletcher a poor mans lucas and carrick is a flop

  86. sanj says:

    @ rooney the new king
Just some clown on the Guardian article regarding Carrick.

  87. sanj says:

Read a report saying Laurent Blanc is the frontrunner for the French coaching position after South Africa… wonder if that’s legit. If so, that would make it rather difficult for him to succeed Fergie. Then again, hopefully Fergie sticks around for a few more years.

  88. bchilds says:

I’m still not sure, I wasn’t sure in the summer and I’m not sure now.

He has talent there somewhere but whether it would work at United or not is a massive gamble if we’re talking about a £20m+ price tag.

If it was £10m-£12m then maybe but Madrid are never going to accept such a low bid.

  89. rooney the new king says:

@ (sanj))- I think it is way to quick to say blanc will be a great manager I would wait 3 to 5 years before we are totaly sure blanc is the real deal when he is still relitivly new.

@ I agree on benzama in my view I think he is way overated, who benzama cannot even keep up with ronaldo who benzama is feeling the green eye over ronaldo, who the spanish league teams they have not got the strength cope with ronaldos size pace power and strength

  90. Marq says:

    Name: Benzema
Famous For: Scoring of a good goal against Manchester United
Reputation Gained By: Being top scorer in a French league that a Lyon team that walked to the title for 7 years
    Badge Kissed: Lyon, Real Madrid
    Age: 21yrs old
    Cost: 35M

    Name: Macheda
Famous For: Scoring of a wonder last gasp winning goal against Villa
Reputation Gain By: Technically winning Manchester United the league in which a record total points by Liverpool could not win
    Badge Kissed: Manchester United
    Age: 18 yrs old
    Cost: Negligible

-> Now tell me who you want in your team?

  91. seni says:

if the price was right 15-20 mill, i’d go for it. He said himself shortly after signing for madrid he knew Fergie was interested and how he respected him for giving young players a chance.
Thin is to play in madrid, as a player you need to have done it at the highest level, Ronaldo – EPL and CL medal, benzema- french title. Kaka – World Cup,CL,Serie A.
THE madrid move was just too soon for him, the food thing is if he cameand did well, he wont go “Tplay for madrid is my dream”line cos he’s seen how it goes overthere.
    i say go for it

  92. King Eric says:

Sanj & Marq – Both spot on lads.

  93. sanj says:

    @ Marq

Love it. I’m going to have to go with this Macheda character you speak of.

  94. rooney the new king says:

@ Marq amazing in the way you put it the only gap between the 2 is a 35 million pound gap it puts the 2 players into perspective.

  95. belfast77 says:

id take only if the money is right. so what he choose Madrid over us first time around big fucking deal. Hes young, a great talent and at one point earlier in the year SAF thought he could do a job for us. Sometimes good players dont fit into certain systems at clubs, that doesnt mean hes become a crap player over night. Anyone who says “hed only be here for the money” needs to wake the fuck up. Very few players these days join teams because it was their “boyhood dream”. its all about the money with 90% of theses players today which i have no problem with for the most part. Im sure if i looked hard enough i could find lots of pics of Michael owen kissing the Liverpool badge, and look what hes doing for us now.

  96. RedHarry4Life says:

I said way back in the summer that give it a few months and the dreams will all be shattered.

I mean every summer you can be guarnateed of two things.

    1. It will be “your Year” again @ scumpool and thats a fact!!!

    2. The fascists will be throwing money away at the latest “it’s my dream to play for real shit” wonder kid. They will be sacking the manager and selling on the orevious years flops.

Let him rot there and let madrid wallow in their huge debt. Not club in europe should make any bids for their players.

Trust in SAF if he thinks Benzema is worth a punt fair do, but he has probably got his eye on someone.

  97. cav says:

Definitely not. He’s acted like an arrogant twat at Madrid, we don’t need someone like that given that we have plenty of young strikers of our own.

  98. parth312 says:

I said it then and I say it now. He would be a fantastic signing for us. Young, exceptionally talented players like Benzema need strong man-management. Fergie would get the best out of him. And his performance at Madrid this season is not a fair ground for judging him. He is part of a political party headed by Perez and Raul. Its not your normal football club. Players are bought, sold and played as per the whim of these 2 guys. Its impossible to please these people.

6 months doesnt make a player bad, just like 6 months doesnt make a player world-class. For 2-3 seasons, this guy was outstanding for Lyon. Doesnt matter what the level in the French league is. We all know what he is capable of. Its just a matter of him getting the right guidance.

Berba is 28 and Owen is 30. A summer move wouldnt be a bad idea. Rooney and Benzema- Now that would a fantastic strikeforce. Kiko and Welbeck will be there in 2-3 years. They are certainly not the finished articles. They would be great as backup strikers.

  99. parth312 says:

Also, keep in mind that in any team with Ronaldo, the main striker/strikers are going to find it hard to score 20+ goals a season. Lets face it- Ronaldo is more a striker than a winger. Scoring loads of goals for him is normal. He is the toughest competition any striker would face.

Dont right him off based on his performance in these 6 months. You never know. Quality players find a way of making their mark.

  100. parth312 says:

This was the case with Berba as well. He turned us down in favour of a Spurs move in 2006. But Fergie understands quality. HE got his man, albeit at a pricey tag. But he is a fantastic player. And it shouldnt matter if a player chooses another club over ours. Every has their own agenda. No point it getting all worked up about it. If they are good enough, and if Fergie rates them, they will come here. Simple.

  101. Datnana says:

    Balotelli ! anybody?

  102. BjOlav says:

    Benzema? Couldn’t be bothered.

What we need in January is defenders, and maybe a creative midfielder. Like Xavi – damn he’s fantastic! We’ve seen Giggs in that role a couple of games, doing quite well. And I think Berbatov could be a man for that job, he’s certainly got the creativity.

And strikers – don’t forget Mame Biram Diouf… Last one we got one from Molde was Solskjaer. Diouf may actually turn out to be a great striker in the EPL, given the chance.

So – defenders and midfielders out there. Who’ve we got? Puyol, maybe. Misimovic? Krasic? Hangeland?

A bit off topic – but there you have it.

  103. Bebeto says:

We’re not in the business of signing rejects, never mind rejects who have so recently pledged allegiance to another club. Suppose we did sign him, what would it say about United as a club? It didn’t work out at Real, move onto second best? It simply won’t happen.

It’s a one-way street. The majority of our players enjoy the most fruitful period of their careers with us, and some of them move on under Real’s pretence that it’s somehow an improvement.

  104. belfast77 says:

    Bebeto
You’re worried what us buying a player from Madrid might say about us as a club, then what the hell does Utd selling the best player in the world to Madrid say about us?

  105. Aig alex is god says:

Datnana.balotelli is a quality player but he is just 19 and inter will demand ridiculous money for.also he is a bit arrogant and has temper problems too.he and kiko were talked on the same page but kiko hasnt developed that fast and balotelli has scored 22 in 50 odd games for the first team.scored a cracker against rubin on wednesday.

  106. Bebeto says:

belfast77, it says “good business”. Perez had regained the presidency, and Ronaldo had given us another season following a summer in which many expected him to go. Were we in a position to reject Madrid’s advances? No, and not only because of the money, but also because Ronaldo’s move to Spain had ‘inevitable’ written all over it. I doubt even Fergie could have appeased Ronaldo if we had denied him the move.

Incidentally, how do you figured I’m worried? It won’t happen, therefore I’m not remotely concerned by the notion.

  107. rooney the new king says:

@ parth312 – no united never had a real interest in the player, berbatov said he turned down united because united were never showing a true interest and he was more impressed with how spurs were trying to sign him. in that time united were trying to sign fernando torres and again the following year, berbatov was like 3rd ir 4th choice for fergie that is why.

benzama is vastly overated who believes his own hype. benzema is no different on what we already got, he is a no 10 striker like what rooney and berbatov does. and why do we want a striker like benzama who is a very moody striker who seems to have a mentality of a nani, I do not want united signing real madrid fans who when he comes good will be wanting to move back to real madrid no thankyou.

  108. belfast77 says:

    Bebeto

You said “Suppose we did sign him, what would it say about United as a club? It didn’t work out at Real, move onto second best”

You must have concerns on some level that other people/teams would think we are second best or you wouldnt have said it, maybe thats not what you ment to say but thats how i read it. Anyway ive just never understood people in general when they say they dont want a certain player because they played for a rival team previously. If a player is available and he can do a job for us i personaly dont care who the fuck he played for in the past. For the record i agree with you and dont think we would go for Benzema now anyway.

  109. Bebeto says:

belfast77, it’s all hypothetical. It’s similar to when people go on about all of the elite talent we’re ready to bring to the club e.g. a double swoop for Villa and Silva. As fans of this club, we recognise it’s all immaterial.

It just so happens that Benzema’s transfer would be interpreted as a step down, whereas Villa and Silva’s would be a step up, yet I still have little time for either scenario.

  110. Marq says:

    @parth312
Quote” Kiko and Welbeck will be there in 2-3 years. They are certainly not the finished articles. They would be great as backup strikers.”

How will Kiko & Welbeck be there in 2-3 years when you put a 35M roadblock in front of them? So meaning in 2-3 years time, a 24yr old Benzema might be a 3rd choice striker?

  111. ronaldeano10 says:

To be honest……. No fuck him, I would rather SAF go for Higuain

  112. Big Bad Wesley Brown says:

I’d still love to see Benzema at United. He’s MADE for United. Imagine a Benzema-Rooney strikeforce… wow!

Benzema is the nearest thing today to (Brazilian) Ronaldo circa 1997 – and he was an awesome striker.

Karim has so much potential, the only downside is he is apparently a bit of a cock.

That said, this rumour is pure bollocks IMO.

  113. vishnu1729 says:

To all united fans….we are the greatest fans in the world…..90% of you are not interested in buying benzema..me too…there are several reasons..
    1)we have mickey owen..with a wage of 20k
2)kiko and welbeck..two hot prospects…i am damn sure that one of them will b turned to the status of a pato , aguero. But they need plying time. Why
pato is a hot prospect in europe? bcoz he was given playing time by milan.
3)Loser benzema once turned us down..not a second chance at united..
4)Most importantly we are manchester united

  114. Big Bad Wesley Brown says:

    5) We can’t afford him.

  115. Berbatovs' love life says:

I understand that United fans are loyal to united players but common sense any unbiased observer would say Benzema has more talent than Kiko or Welbeck and it would be the best thing for United to buy a player of his talent even if it meant losing one of them

  116. manutd4eve says:

come on guys should we want to see benzema in red devils shirt never. it doesnt matter how good he is even he can become a world player of the year never want him in manutd. after we showed him the respect that he deserved EG: do u guys remember SAF giving our top to him when we went to play lyon several years back? he knows from that point we were interested him and we want and the fans would love him but what he did at last? twat rejected us for facicts(real showed interest just 1week) does he deserve our shirt my answer NOOOOOOOOOOOO. we r not lower than real madrid so we dont want the reject from real. in football or in our history we didnt have world player of the year every season but still we grew up to the top and we will grow up to the top SAF please tell benzema FUCK OFF the word he deserve from u the respect he showed for u interest. I DONT CARE IF HE BECOME A WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN THE FUTURE, DONT WANT TO SEE HIM RED DEVIL’S SHIRT SIMPLE. NOTE B4 HE MOVED TO REAL I AM ONE OF THE UTD FAN WHO WANT TO SEE HOMM AT OLD TRAFFORD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BUT NOW NOT EVEN IN MILLION YEARS. IF THEY SIGHN HIM I WILL DOWN GRADE MY SEASON TICKET TO JUST PAY AS U WATCH AS I WILL GO TO OT ONLY BENZEMA INJURED SO HE WONT PLAY.

  117. manutd4eve says:

people may argue what about rooney or owen etc etc….. listen guys we never had a bid for owen and he never rejected us went we want him he said yes, berba people may say he is a flop but in my list he will b my hero always even if he flops coz he choose us over shity(money or true red devil) the list will go on. as far as i know our club never signed a player who reject us or insult us simple.

  118. berbaiit says:

If Fergie is going for him it should be much cheaper price than 35M. Its better not get Dzeko rather than buying Benzema for that prize. Madrid is not a team for develop. Manchester is the best team to develop a player. Benzema made a huge mistake by not joining United. If we can get hin around 20M. then its great.

  119. dozwer says:

never wanted him anyway. had always said he was overrated.

  120. james f says:

Overrated. Lost his chance to join the best club in the world.

  121. parth312 says:

@ Marq, Fair point but your underlying assumption is that BOTH Kiko and Welbeck will be make it to the top at United. I dont see that happening. Only one of them, at the most, will make it big as a striker at United. Lets face it, its getting very difficult for young players to break in to the first team and to expect both your young strikers to make it there and stay there, is well kind of over-optimistic. Welbeck has a better chance at present, but the next few years will decide it. In the meanwhile, we have Berba who is getting older and ofc the main man Rooney. I dont really see a problem with Benzema, Rooney and Welbeck/Kiko. 3 top strikers gives you great rotation. 2 strikers and an injury to one can cause a lot of problems.

  122. Corea says:

    No.

  123. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Big bad Wes brown
of course Manchester UNited can afford him
I don’t understand why people say things like this do you not think that the richest sports club in the world who sold a player fir straight up 80 million Which was after they made a 28 million pound offer for tevez , 108million, afet a season where they signed a new shirt sponsership and won the league the league cup and the world championship in a season where they were defending English and European champions just went broke . I know the club is in debt but so is that other thing…..?… Oh yeah the world. And if a club like Manchester united who have all that money made in the last 2 years and that only 2 years of money for this amazing club , did go broke in a heart beat it would be global news not mirror.Coms breaking news

  124. mufcdevils says:

he is overrated. sir alex always makes the right choices

  125. aig alex is god says:

    http://goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2009/12/11/1680966/real-madrids-cristiano-ronaldo-the-fastest-in-football

ronny the fastest with the ball at his feet.rooney not far behind.

  126. Fze123 says:

No one mentioned the fact that Diouf is coming in january, who’s also 21. Maybe his arrival it self tells us that Fergie wouldn’t be considering buying benzema anyway. And yesterday Fergie mentioned a work permit will be applied for Diouf. Let’s hope this comes through easily.

  127. aig alex is god says:

    Fze123

dont think he will play this season mate. with owen looking in great form and berba and rooney looking good too he wont play this season. i have read he has looked good in training and should be a success.hope he does well.

  128. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Fze123
this guy is the Ryan giggs in his home, they treat him like he’s there version of George best. I seen a story Bout him 2/3 months ago on sky sports news and he is treated like a god. They only showed about 4 seconds of the lad playing football and about 3 minutes of the fans bouncing to a song about him. It made me very excited to know thus guy is coming to united even if I know nothing about him.

  129. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Is there really a Leeds player called snotgrass?

  130. Fze123 says:

aig alex is god – He could feature in the CC and FA alongside the kids. Maybe he’s not ready yet for the prem, from what I have seen on youtube, he isn’t very fast, and would take him time to get him used to the pace of the prem. But he certainly does score for fun, is strong in the air and is ecstatic about playing for utd, from what I read in his interviews.

Gotta hate tiny tears – I have noticed that too. He is mobbed by every single teammate everytime he scores, gets the crowd going crazy. Maybe norwegian fans always get hyper when ever someone scores a goal, but we’ll see. He could well be our black solskjaer.

  131. aig alex is god says:

    ghtt

there is a player called robert snodgrass at Leeds scum.thats all i know.he is young, 22 i think. dont know anything else about him

  132. aig alex is god says:

    Fze123

even if he is half as good as ole i will be delighted.ole wasnt too quick either but his predatory insticts and cool finishing made him a great striker.the good thing is he is already getting a months training before he is eligible to play so hopefully he can play some part in the CC and FA Cup against leeds scum

  133. Mclovin7 says:

benzema is an interesting one. I would say yeh i would have him and get shot of berbaflop. Just look at fernando torres did score goals in spain but he scores more in the premier league when fit another prick that will be wishing he had come to us rather than the scousers. I do think benzema is a class player benzema, rooney, macheda, wellbeck, diouf all playing together for 8 -10 years could be a world beating set of strikers

  134. redorded says:

Benzema: Would you want him playing for you, or against you? Cup-Tied Price of £20-25m is a steal – he’s only 21.

  135. King Eric says:

    “berbaFLOP”. ? Grow up.

  136. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

hi mate. forget it.i am tired of answering people who say berbatov is a flop.for some people being a striker is all about scoring goals.we know its not that way and what Berba brings to the team.Without him we would be fiuther behing the rent boys. he had a cracking game against Wolfsburg without scoring a goal.some people dont understand that.

  137. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Mclovin7
berbaflop? That’s good you might have a future writing for the mirror.
You could have typed the meaning of life and the single cure for aids and cancer after that play on words and I wouldn’t even have takin it in. How in the blue fuck is berbatov a flop. Cause he’s the best first touch control in the football world or is it the silky skill like cantona or the vision of a keane or is it because he’s the laid back style of a Teddy sheringham . Get a grip, as Scott once wrote if you don’t get berbatov you don’t get football , which is a rule in my head. Scott also once wrote tevez has the touch of a rapist which I always love

  138. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Just read the rest of the comment and it’s as stupid as the rest. To say a torres is better than a berbatov is amazingly thick. Torres scores goals and em? Get injuried were as berbatov can score goals can play up front on his own can play in the holding role can assist and can play in a team. Torres can’t and there in lies the problem with Liverpool. Relying on a player to always score a winner with an egotistical midfielder who’s all about the me factor.

  139. Marq says:

    @ parth312

You forgot Berbatov & Owen, I did not suggest that both Macheda & Welbeck will be stars, I am only giving 1 of them a chance, and I do rate Macheda much higher then Welback

Benzema will be behind Rooney, Berbatov, and if things go right, in 3 years time, Macheda. 35M bench warmer? Not a very good idea.

  140. Marq says:

And… I just have to rant this off.
To those who slate Berbatov, why can’t you look at things this way? Yes Berbtov did not score 1/2 as much goals as Torres, but if you add assist to the equation, there is not much to choose between them. And to add for an interesting side show, try find out how many successful tackles Berbatov had compared to Torres

  141. rrou says:

RVN > benzema, even at this age

  142. Gee says:

We dont need Benzema but I would get him if the price was right. If they sold him his so called love for Madrid would turn to hate and fuel his ambition to suceed with us, so it wouldnt be a bad signing. And just coz he decided to go to spain instead coz he was caught up in all the Perez hype, doesnt mean I wouldnt support him if he signed for us. Any player that signs for us I will support until its decided by SAF that they arent right for us. To be honest tho i really think this Diouf lad is gunna put any talk of strikers signing for us to bed, he is going to make alot of people sit up and take notice!!

  143. Big Bad Wesley Brown says:

I’m excited about seeing Mame Biram Diouf as well but let’s not count any chickens. We’ve signed a player who’ll arrive in January, all we need now is to sort out his work permit… where’ve I heard that one before?

  144. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

big bad Wes brown He’s cleared to play in England , he’s been training with the team for nearly a month now

  145. red rossa says:

still take him he’s quality like united is a proper club too we would make him the best in the world, madrid is a club that just ruins talent, had this conversation with my boss the other day funny ye should mention it :P

  146. dl says:

i don’t think that even madrid would sell one of the new ‘galactico’s mk 2′ (i know that madrid’s players don’t like the term galactico but the majority of football fans – including some of the rm ones are calling them that so i don’t think they have an argument) after just 6 months – that is low even for them. Also there are the matters (a) the player doesn’t want to leave madrid, (b) aparts from prehaps from their coach mp (who most likely won’t be at the the club for more than 2 yrs – this is madrid after all, it’d be weird if they didn’t fire a coach at least every few years) the club i don’t think what to sell (i recall that perez even said benzema is his favourite of the new signings) (c) if saf wasn’t prepared to spend 35-40m then, then he probably wouldn’t now either and (d) Guillem Balague is the biggest (and most annoying) gossip ever & add to that benzema seems to be doing better at rm i think it’s safe to conclude that this is a non story. Anyway, personally i didn’t want him in the summer and i don’t want him now. If saf is able to pinch anyone from rm (though it’ll never happen) get higuain, and once he grows out of the petulance and sees the light in a few yrs that north england is not so bad a piece to be then hopefully saf will rework his magic on ronaldo in time for the london games (never happen but i can’t see him retiring at madrid, because it’s madrid so…)

  147. shakshamboo says:

i believe its must be a dilemma for SAF whenever he thinks of bringing in a new striker. with all the good qualities in our team, pace is one thing we are lacking upfront. also, apart from owen we do not have a natural striker. welbeck and kiko are too young and not there yet in terms of consistency. they will need a couple of more seasons to get that. also both owen and berba will be not at there best in a couple of years. so its my thinking that he will resist the temptation to buy a new striker atleast until summer and will only buy if he thinks that any of the two youngsters are not up to scratch.

but for the sake of giving my opinion i would like us to buy pato from milan. he is top quality and has all the attributes of a top striker and is also very young so is likely to develop even more.

at the moment we are very light in defence and rio is becoming more and more injury prone which at his age is not a good sign for a player. i am wondering why are we not playing de laet at right back. he has looked decent whenever he has played. why have we even bought him if we now think he is not good enough. maybe we can loan an experienced central defender just as stop gap measure.

  148. Shark 11 says:

Tell him to fuck off. He had his chance and he chose to Real.

  149. Harry says:

Yeah, tell him to fuckoff. Man Utd is not a replacement team for him. He went to Real Madrid as soon as they offered more money, so it is clearly stated that he is a money-lover player. And I think we need more defenders or midfielders.
