Young: I Am At The Biggest Club In The World

Born and raised just outside of London, Ashley Young has today revealed that Arsenal’s Ian Wright was his boyhood hero. However, despite any possible aspirations of emulating his idol’s career, Young confirms that most lads his age grew up wanting to play for Manchester United.

“Ian Wright was my hero,” said Young. “But even then, if you asked most kids which team they would like to play for, quite a lot would say Manchester United. People judge me differently because I am at the biggest club in the world. I could tell the difference as soon as I got there. I wanted to go a club where I could win titles and medals and play in the biggest competitions. I have a chance to do that now.”

  1. Kings says:

    Well said that man.

  2. Huzi says:

Brilliant signing with a brilliant attitude! Going to definitely be a top player for us this season.

  3. Mikael says:

Have been really impressed with him and his attitude after the first comeback goal showed he knows what it means being a Manchester United player. “Get effin ball back and let’s get two more!”

  4. King Eric says:

I have really warmed to this lad. A confident but grounded down to earth lad who was “desperate” to join United. My kind of player. He was excellent on Sunday. They couldnt live with him on Sunday. His movement is top drawer. Works his socks off too. As many on here know I have ALWAYS rated Young! Not.

  5. King Eric says:

Mikael – That was great to see. Reminicsant of Ronnie at home to spurs when we were 2-0 down.

Watched the game again last night and I can say it warmed my heart seeing the young lads rush over to Nani after his first goal. Cleverley, Wellbeck, Jones, Smalling etc. Really chuffed for the lads.

  6. Balaji Sivaraman says:

King Eric and Mikael, Spot on lads. That is exactly the kind of inspiration I want to see from a United player. In fact, it is even more better because it came from a new boy and not someone who is already there like Rooney/Evra/Giggs etc. For someone who is playing his first big match to show that kind of leadership is simply outstanding. That is why Sir Alex buys someone like Young ahead of a marquee name like Alexis Sanchez. Top-money cannot buy you that kind of commitment. It is little things like that which separates us from the rest of the club. It is little things like that which makes us the winners that we are.

Add to that he has all the qualities to be a top player for us like Valencia has been. He has already demonstrated some understanding with Evra and Rafael/Fabio which will only get better with time. All in all, a top-quality signing once again from the Boss.

  7. smartalex says:

You are at the best club in the world now Ashley, welcome to glory!

It seems that once again Sir Alex has found and obtained a quality player with the right attitude and desire to fit straight into our winning team. Thank you Sir!

  8. moscow JT says:

At the biggest club in the world? That’s no news to me Mr. Young. Anyway, welcome.

  9. CedarsDevil says:

Good attitude so far from Young, says the right things and seems to be enjoying himself. Lets hope he has a big season for us

Huge statement using only 3 dots, have to admire that

  12. hsn_666 says:

He is gonna be class. I’ve been well impressed with him so far. Good lad, Ashley :)

  14. smartalex says:

    That’s called ‘one-upmanship’

  15. giggs12gerrard0 says:

This signing didnt exactly excite me given our current wide players but boy how I have been proved wrong. Slotted into the dresiing room banter, says the right things, and more importantly is a class player! He has looked brilliant all pre season and on Sunday raised the bar. His use of the ball is very intelligent > As always I am always happy to look stupid when proved wrong!

  16. NotoriousRedDevil says:

The attributes Young has towards the club was one of the reasons why I WASNT slating him when we were linked. He’s had to work hard to make it here and you can see he appreciates it as well. Just look at his career, when he joined Villa I would have picked Gabby pillhead Abonglahor over him at least for the first 2 years. He’s surpassed all the supposedly bright sparks for the future at Villa. Now he’s at United he’s only going to get better because he’s a hard worker. Have a lot of respect for players who come from the lower leagues in England and making it at the highest level without being bought at age 18.

  17. Chica Chicha says:

Looks like Nani and Rooney have to leave the freekicks to Ashley.
Excellent freekick for Smalling to score. Just floated over the defender’s head.
Any bets on him scoring 10 goals this season?

  18. Gee says:

So glad we signed this lad, I said since the moment we were linked with him that he would be a fantastic signing, especially with his set play ability!! and on sunday he showed exactly why I was so happy for this lad to sign!!

  20. The WitchKing of Angmar says:

I must say that even when Young was a Villa player, I rated him and whenever I watched villa play, he was really the only one I looked out for. He has slotted in to the team better than I first thought he would. I also agree that Rooney and Nani should leave the freekick responsibilities to Young. i cant recall when last Rooney scored a freekick and Young would be a better taker than Nani so get that one sorted lads. One United

  21. Always Be Closing says:

I really didn’t like the fact we were signing him, thought we had the players covering it no problem and that a centre-mid is more needed..

..but now I think it’s a stroke of genius – inter-linking with everyone well, switching wings with Nani at will and generally being an absolute nuisance to defenders. Top signing!

  22. willierednut says:

    Fergie knows best. ;)

  23. King Eric says:

The WitchKing. Rooney Freekick? West Ham away.

  24. Eddo says:

u better believe it Ashley,,work ur way up and soon the famous number seven will be yours..!!

  25. booch says:

i must say that young is still young young is a very hard player but da crosses r brilliant
