It has been confirmed today that Nani has been forced to withdraw from the Portugal squad after suffering a shoulder injury.

“After tests we conclude he is unfit to participate in the World Cup,” read a statement from the Portuguese Football Federation.

He picked up the injury last week in training but inital thoughts were the injury wasn’t too bad. However, tests confirmed that he, like Rio Ferdinand, will miss out on this summer’s competition.

Carlos Queiroz has called up Benfica’s Ruben Amorim, who has yet to represent his country, to replace him in the squad.
