Reports today suggest that Salford-born Danny Simpson is set to return to Manchester United at the end of the season. The defender was sent on loan to Blackburn at the start of the season to sweeten the deal which saw us take goalkeeping coach, Eric Steele, from the club just days after he had joined them.

Simpson has played in the league on just one occasion since the turn of the year, being played largely in the Reserve team. Sam Allardyce has no intention of making the loan deal permanent.

Like Phil Bardsley before him, here is a player we really wanted to make the grade, but sadly, it looks like he will be off in the summer. On the bright side, at least we have Rafael!
