Following our 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend, Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that we had been the better side. This opinion was supported by the fact we had more shots, more possession, as well as better passing and tackling completion.

Essentially, United gifted Liverpool three goals with dreadful mistakes and were in the game before going down to ten men. This doesn’t take away from the fact Liverpool deserved to win, however does suggest the scoreline made Liverpool look a lot better than they actually were.

Arsene Wenger, who recently backed the FSW in the fixture argument (strangely, Mad Rafa wasn’t complaining at the lunch time kick-off on Saturday, given they’d played on Tuesday in the Champions League, whilst United had played on Wednesday!) recently, has today given his opinion on this weekend’s match.

“There are two things I would like to say about that game,” said Wenger. “Firstly, congratulations to Liverpool for winning with an emphatic score, but I think overall it is a very flattering result. For big spells in the game Manchester United dominated but they made mistakes on the day that usually they don’t make. Some players looked a bit mentally tired. It opens up the race for the title but I still believe that Manchester United are in a strong position with that game in hand. However they have played many matches since Christmas and it looked to have caught up with them on Saturday.”
