Irritating Arsenal goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, has claimed that Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel, is his inspiration and believes Arsenal will win the league.

Szczesny has got himself in to a bit of bother on Twitter recently, most recently in reaction to Ashley Cole’s missed penalty. “Is it a plane? Is it an aeroplane? No, its just ashley throwing chelsea out of the fa cup :)” It almost worked. Piss take fail.

Before that, he hilariously claimed that it was Manchester United who get all the decisions after a penalty appeal against our team was waved away. In Arsenal’s next game against Birmingham, they scored their opening goal from a freekick awarded for a dive and the referee didn’t award Birmingham a penalty when van Persie handled the ball in the box.

Still, whilst generally a prat, it’s good to see he’s a man of taste, with Schmeichel his favourite keeper of all time.

“If you ask me who my favourite keeper of all time is, it’s Peter Schmeichel,” he said. “As a kid I used to watch and admire him. I hope I can achieve as much in my career as he did. Winning on Sunday would give us a massive boost. If we do win the trophy we will have even more desire to push on from there and win all the trophies remaining. We believe we are capable of winning the title. We’ve been very consistent lately and we don’t concede a lot of goals. We fancy our chances of catching United up and winning the title this year.”
