Everybody’s ranting and raving about Ryan Giggs at the moment, with Sir Alex Ferguson recently asking for a knighthood for our legend.
The fuss began following his brilliant performance against Chelsea in our 3-0 win. After successfully making the transition from winger to central midfielder, Giggsy bossed a midfield that boasted the talent of Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack.
More recently, Giggs scored our only goal in a 1-0 win over West Ham, successfully beating two men, winding back the years, before slotting the ball away with his right foot.
Dimitar Berbatov, like most of our squad, was away on International duty this week and has acknowledged this Giggsy fever has spread all the way to Bulgaria, with Berbatov’s international team mates drooling over Ryan.
“When I went back for the international, all my team-mates said, ‘What a goal, what a finish, what a player’,” Berbatov said. “I said, ‘I know, I train and play with him every day’. You can imagine what people say about Ryan Giggs. He has achieved so much. The goal he scored showed his quality when the team needed it. I am not the one to speak about him really, Sir Alex and the others know him very well. But how long has he been here? Nearly 20 years. That speaks for itself. He is one of the greatest players and some day they will put a statue of him outside the stadium.”
