Bruno Fernandes scored his eighth goal of the season in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Brighton, making him the seventh highest scorer in the league this season. He’s also ninth when it comes to assists, having created more goalscoring opportunities (71) than anyone else in the league, with Trent Alexander-Arnold second (64) and Kevin De Bruyne third (44). You can only imagine how many more assists he’d have if our forwards had their shooting boots on this season.
Over the past two seasons, Bruno has racked up 43 goals and assists, putting him behind only Harry Kane with 44 and Mo Salah with 52.
Fernandes was asked by the club’s official site how he felt to be responsible for so many United goals.
Of course, for myself, I want to have my stats better than last season. I always want to do better than before and also want to try to do more goals and assists, create more chances for my team-mates and everything. But not really, the most important is what you do on the pitch and show you are doing that game by game and always improving.
It’s obviously an honour to be on that list, of course, since I came and being in comparison with Harry Kane, scoring lots of goals last season. He was playmaker of the season by one assist and Mo Salah has been fantastic, scoring lots of goals. So being in that list with him for goal involvements, goals and assists or whatever, is always a pleasure. It makes you proud of what you are doing as I know there’s much more to come yet. I think I can do much better and I will, for sure.
