Rumours emerged last night that Michael Carrick had an Achilles injury and was set to be ruled out until Christmas.

The club have this morning confirmed this to be the case. They have assessed that the 32-year-old will be out of action for 4-6 weeks.

Carrick was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year last season but his form has dipped this year. He played the full 90 minutes in our 1-0 win over Arsenal but didn’t appear to be struggling.

It had been reported that the club were set to offer Carrick a new two year contract extension, but it is unknown whether they will now wait until he returns.
