Ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League game against Real Sociedad, Casemiro has spoken to BT Sports about how happy he is to have joined us from Real Madrid.
I think that from day one the club have been great with me. All of the coaching staff and players have made me feel at ease and at home. I’m really happy and excited, all I can do is thank the club, my teammates and the coaching staff. I’m really happy here.
Casemiro, with his five Champions League titles, comes with wealth of experience, but he recognises the other leaders that United have in the club.
I think when the games get going that’s when you notice who are and who aren’t truly great players. I think that there are players who’ve been at the club for much longer than I have and speak better English than I do, but I think that the real leaders make themselves known on the pitch.
Having won everything with Real Madrid, some people have questioned the step down to playing in the Europa League with United, but he stresses that United want to win every game, and every competition.
Every competition we play in is important, it’s not a matter of Europa League final or friendly, here at Manchester United you go on the pitch to win every game. We know that there are challenges we’ll face and opponents are keen to beat us. But we’ve got to take things game by game, win game after game, and I think that’s the key to winning trophies. But we know it’s really tough.
Casemiro also sung the praises of manager Erik ten Hag and insists that the whole squad are happy with his approach to football.
To be honest he’s really surprised me. He’s full of desire and is obsessed with winning. I think that not just me but every player here is happy with him, with the way he works and approaches things. I think that the key is to pull in the same direction so that we can keep on winning, picking up wins, and in turn win trophies.
