Craig Cathcart put in a good performance for United last night against Boca Juniors, playing the centre of defence alongside Wes Brown, then Rio Ferdinand.

However, in a game that ended 2-1 to United, Cathcart almost scored for the opposition, with his header coming back off the woodwork! Still, that didnt stop him from enjoying his day.

“It’s brilliant,” said Cathcart. “I played at Norwich on Saturday with the reserve team, then to fly over here and play in this brilliant stadium against good opposition was a good challenge and I really enjoyed it. It was a tough match. Boca Juniors are a different club to who you play against in the Premier League and overall it was nice to win. With great players around you, it makes you more comfortable and hopefully I fitted in quite well.”

But what about the almost own goal?

“It was like slow motion,” he said. “Those Adidas balls move around a lot!”

With several youngsters leaving this summer because they couldnt get in the team, like Eckersley and Campbell, Cathcart is hoping he can avoid getting sent away on loan again and get some more action for the first team.

“I’ve been out on loan in the last three seasons, so hopefully I might get to stick around this year and try to get amongst the squad and get a few games,”
he said. “I’d like to see what happens. We’ve got a big squad and the manager will know which players to pick.”
