“The top of the league is really open at the moment – we saw that Manchester United and Arsenal were held to draws in the last round of games, we still have to play Man U twice and, before kick-off today, Manchester City have played two matches more than us. So we know there are plenty of opportunities for the teams in and around us to drop points again and we just have to make sure that we are picking up maximum points as often as we can. That has to be the aim at this club – we are Double winners, the best team in the country. With the amount of trophies we have lifted, the players we have and the quality of football we know we are capable of, it’s up to us to continue winning games now. Bolton was just a start, now it’s about returning to that consistency we are known for. Come on the Chels!”

John Terry was bullish in his programme notes ahead of Aston Villa’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

Villa had the worst away record in the league, winning just one and losing seven of their nine away trips. Surely the perfect opposition for Chelsea to “show their hunger.”

Sadly, after taking the lead with a penalty, Chelsea found themselves 2-1 down just five minutes in to the second half. Didier Drogba looked to have rescued a point for the blues five minutes before the final whistle, until John Terry, captain, leader, legend, stepped up. This British Bulldog, who bleeds blue, Mr Chelsea, captain fantastic, put Chelsea 3-2 up in the last minute of normal time. This goal momentarily lifted “the best team in the country” back in to the top four.

But then in the 91st minute, Villa scored an equaliser, pushing Chelsea back down to 5th, six points behind United, having played a game more than us.
