Manchester United travel to Southampton this afternoon for the second game of the Premier League season. Having beaten Southampton 9-0 at Old Trafford last season, after coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at St Mary’s a few months earlier, it’s reasonable to expect their players and fans will be looking for some sort of revenge.
United’s away form last season was fairly remarkable but today we will be playing against a full capacity home crowd for the first time since before lockdown.
After Raphael Varane was unveiled on the pitch ahead of last weekend’s 5-1 win over Leeds, he has a place on the bench this afternoon, after joining the squad late due to the Euros and quarantine. Jadon Sancho will have to wait at least another week for his first start for the club too, with Anthony Martial getting the nod over him today.
