As I said on the other thread, didn't Ole say he this will be a good chance for the kids? Young, Matic and Mata?

Anyway, we better win this comfortably....Ole has no excuses or will we 'learn' something again afterwards?

I'm not sure if any could to be honest. As much as the belief that Ole is very basic, look at the squad we have. Look at who's warming up right now.

Nobody has the skill required to break a stubborn team right now. Perreira is given so much space and time right now, he's at his peak, can't and doesn't have the required ability to be the creative we need.

I can't deny that we have an average set of players, generally speaking BUT if managed better they can perform at a higher level..........The rule applies to any other profession. With better guidance and planning you can get more out of people...

Anyway, looks like we're spared an embarrassment this evening!

I expect I'd get a lot of slack and resistance here, but my stance on Ole has changed recently. I think I see a potential if given the right players. One big missing piece is the right midfielder along with a striker and defender. I want to see how Ole mold this team given the right players in his disposal. He may fail miserably but I also see a chance for him to succeed.

Again, I hear all of you and your disagreements even before you say them, but it's just my opinion.

Apart from 2 good midfielders we also need 2 good, technically sound fullbacks who can pass, cross and create.

These players are not as bad as some make them out to be. To that end, bryan, i agree with you. I think These players can perform at a higher level than we are seeing under the right management. I am sorry but i am done with this ole experiment. I do not for a second believe ole gunnar solskjaer can win us the premier league in the long run and if we are not aiming for that then what the bleep are we doing

I hear you. I understand what you're saying.

Here's my thing, with the squad as presently constructed, we shouldn't be relying on just the counter attack. With the right tactics and the right coaching, we should be able to carve open several of the teams that have frustrated us. So I don't think it's just a personnel thing.

Had this been a league game and Colchester were looking for a point, I struggle to see how we'd score..
We've fielded a full strength team against a team 3 leagues below us.

All in all, 3 points.. We're through to the semis

I mean, wheres Chong, Levitt, Gomes, laird.. This was a perfect game for Greenwood to play in his natural and preferred position.

Well, if nothing else, at least we've found Maguire and Martials level..

I came home and started watching from around the hour mark..

Martial beating players, Maguire finally looking like an 80 million quid defender.. calm and composed, winning everything, almost scoring from a corner for a change!

So there we have it boys, 3 goals up at home in the league cup against league 2 opposition and we get the best out of them!

I'm in between the 2 opinions above,

I do think Ole needs better players, but at the same time these players have shown they have the ability to cut defences apart when the space is there..

Therefore the manager/coach needs to be honing these abilities of there's and implement a system whereby they're able to make space for themselves and cut open the opposition..

Capiche?

Also, agree with Ernest, if the aim isn't to regain our PL title, what's the point.. I'm all for a long term project, but a long term project that doesn't end with the PL trophy? What's the point? If it's a clean up job, then a year or 2 will suffice..

This is where we have to disagree. The players we rely to break open stubborn opponents don't have the skill and the vision to do just that. We can talk about tactics all day but who are you going to call to control the midfield with some brilliant creative passes to feed our striker other than Pogba who is nowhere to be seen, Fred? Chong? Lingard? Perreira? The last one in particular, was given the space and time he needed, to say he was unsuccessful is really an understatement.

We will disagree on this as well Yusuf, but no coach can make United stands tall with the above set of players. There's much talk about Madison, he's nowhere near a world-class level so-to-speak, but compare him to the players I mentioned above, he is head and shoulder above all of them. Miles ahead. This shows how far we have fallen in quality. Jose couldn't do it, Poch was recently fired, Ancelotti has been demoted to Everton.

What makes me a bit excited coming to the games is to see the likes of Levitt, Garner, Laird and Williams who otherwise would have not seen the light of day if we're couched by some other dudes.

But agree to disagree I guess :)

So we get city, may be a blessing in disguise.. I was hoping for Leicester, they'd be confident enough to set up attacking wise against us, without having the quality city possess..

But oh well, if city go on to win another trophy we'll only have ourselves to blame..

If we beat them there's a very good chance they'll end up trophy less!

Mobi _ i dont think we have a year or two. Teams around us are growing rapidly. We simply do not have the time. Ole should go at the end of the season. I prefer it was sooner. We are affording him a luxury we cant afford. Like you said, what is the point of a long term plan? Top 4?

I think city are dropping off, and they'll drop even further when pep runs along..

But we have a real job catching up to this Liverpool side, they just have that efficiency about them.. they've played poorly most weeks and just continued to win..

We need to improve massively to catch them..

Also think Spurs will be a typical Mourinho side next season, wouldn't surprise me to see them there or thereabouts for the league..

I really don't rate Chong at all despite all the acclamations he received. So far he looks like very basic. I think Gomes will leave very soon. I'd prefer to see Galbraith more. I hear a lot of great things about him and how he is liken to Scholes.

Whether we agree or not on many levels I think the quality of football under Ole is evolving for better, true its monosyllable counter attacking football but recently and since the Spurs game I see more coordinations between our three lines, more persistence to attacks, the passing accuracy is improving, the basic football skills of many individuals are also getting shapes. I know we are still unable to break defense properly and there will be stumble on the way, while i also realize that we are for the first time play as a unity in the last 4 games, there has been a level of maturity in how we dealing with each games, even against Az Alkmaar despite the draw at home we have seen the urgency in the end, the will to respond... no grand speculations about Ole or the team, however my indifference, my anhedonia and stoic position are about to be filled with more passion and jubilations, I was for the first time put onto the edge of my seat by the lads even it was a game against Colchester. Let us all hope this will last, this evolution if not mundane and if its masterminded by more great signings as some mentioned here, well at last we might be able a flickering of light at the end of the tunnel.
