Young is clearly a much better diver than ronaldo ever was bcoz every time I've seen him go down, my initial reaction is that he got the shite fouled out of him. What I find very surprising is that young doesn't get nearly as chastised by the British media as Ronaldo did for diving. One of the commentators in the QPR game said the same thing abt young kinda getting away with his diving because hes English.

Diving is bad but almost everyone does it. But double standards in the media is even worse.

Balaji, can't agree with you more on evans, has to be a potential player of the year. Its like fletcher people gave him shit and are having to eat their words.. Same will go for jones and even danny, if sir alex believes in them its good enough for me

The rule re penalties is not that there is contact, but that there is sufficient contact to obstruct or bring down the player, otherwise you would get penalties for touching someone.

I have to give MOTM to Scholes because the difference with him and without him is plain to see. Carrick and Evans/Rio not far behind. Love Rafael. Evra and Nani link up well.

Top performance. Scholes makes me cry on days like this. Wingers brilliant. Rafael tops, and I thought evra had a good game too. Evans a monster.
And that was never a dive. If you see the replays, young's body swerve gets him in the path of contact. He does the rest, I'll admit, but never a dive imo. If it was a deadlock at 80 min, you lot would be crying for something like that. In fact, I recall many on here saying, "ohh ffs, welbz boy, go down and get the pen".
Anyway, top night. Difficult to make out on tv, but I thought the atmosphere was great. Onward and upward. 2 to go. Win 2 and how sweet would 20 taste!!!

Oh, and who else had butterflies in their stomach when Scholes went down in the first half. I was practically shitting in my pants because Scholesy rarely goes down and he was flat on his back. Certainly one of those nerve-tingling moments and glad it was on his thigh. We need him for this run-in. Period.

NBI, Spot on. I absolutely agree with your entire post on today's topic of discussion.

Costas, Well, I should add myself to that list as well. Evans certainly makes us proud when he plays like that. He's improved loads this season and long may that continue.

Regarding Young, yeah, I agree. Park has long been used as a utility player in mid-field and Young could follow suit. It is doubtful whether he has the same three lungs as Park but he can also play in a variety of positions. So, there could be some truth in your theory. But yeah, I want to see Sir Alex have a word with Young and ask him to cut it out for sure.

I'm loving the improvements that rafa is making with every single game. He hasn't gotten a yellow card in a long long time, no red card in ages and his tackles are getting cleaner and are more measured. There was one play in today's game that I remember clearly: it was midway thru the first half, there was an open ball and both rafa and a villa player went for it, the villa player beat rafa to the ball and flicked it past rafa's right foot. The old rafa would've impetuously stuck his foot all the way and blocked the villa player from getting past him. But this time, rafa retracted his leg, pulled away from any contact, composed himself then chased down the villa player and recovered the ball.

Absolutely loving it.

Ryan Taylor having a go at Young? That defender "saved" so many shots that he has become well known for it.

Gathered many people didn't like Young's way of falling, but Sir Alex summed it up perfectly.

Dramatic fall? Yes
Who's fault? Defender's fault
Was it a penalty? Yes

Let's leave it at there. Our next game is against Everton, which is not going to be anywhere near as easy today.

We need the real Rooney back.
We need Welbeck to start shooting instead of taking an extra touch.
We need Valencia, Nani & Young attacking the wings.
We need Evans & Rio to stay tight.
And we need De Gea to keep it clean.

Guys FOUR GAMES TO GO. Win 3 out of the next 4 and we are champions!!! WE ARE TICKING THEM OFF.

The ho's at City still have a thumping goal difference but that is only relevant if we lose one and draw one of the next four games which while not inconceivable is unlikely.

Sunderland only managed a draw with Wolves at home, they will be safe by the time we play them and we should win that game.

Does anyone know if Everton have a mid-week game - I thought they had the second leg against Liverpool to play this week, which should tire them nicely, or is it just one leg now.

So whats worse then a penalty which was a penalty talked to death because of the way Young went over, or a goal that no one saw go in but was given?

MH was right there when the tackle on Young went in - what the fuck is the problem?

Atkinson was where - assistant was where when the second goal never went in?

Fuck off, we only get the press cause we fucking sell it

Ashley Young has been doing that for years - it's more his movement than anything else - it meant fuck all when he was winning penalties like that for Villa but but becomes something when doing it for United

Sorry if I don't buy that - I know it's OTT what Young does but seriously it's fuck all when put into context - if we are going Young bashing please feel free to explain why it meant nothing when he was doing it for Villa.

it's not a dive because he was fouled! but it was a little theatrical! :D There's a difference between making sure you get the decision you deserve because of a rash tackle by a defender, and buying a penalty. Fair play to him I say... Why should he stay on his feet and then not score because somebody has stuck a foot out? Its not a moral issue... would we rather not have the goal?! He does look like a ballet dancer when he goes down though... :D Needs to keep him legs together!!!

Young doesnt make the rules. Contact in the box is a penalty and its the referee's call not Young. Young only exagerated his fall and appealed, he didnt blow the whistle. Young is employed to make sure United win, the best way he can. He doesnt have to think about how he is gonna fall its instinctive and thats the way footballers are traind these days. There is a Gary Neville article about diving in mordern football. Read it and it will give you an insight into how players approach tackles in mordern football. I wouldnt be complaining if Utd had won 1-0 through the penalty. You are all afraid of the stick that the ABU media gives us when Young dives, you wait and see what you get if we dont win..... You go ahead and tell Young not to dive, but how will you stop Suarez, Carrol, Busquets, and the entire Barcelona team and to some extent Real Madrid players. If thats how the game is played bring it on..........!!!
