Then again, Woody could well be talking to Zidane behind the scenes ala Jose with LVG.
By the end of today, we could be behind Bournemouth and Wolves - forget whoever is at the top.

WAU

You were wrong about defending him from day one as I was about LVG who won an FA Cup in his last season. Mourinho was a disaster from day one because he doesn't suit the club and never has. Before Moyes was even officially announced I was totally against his appointment. Even if he took United to the CL final (I think he took us to the quarters). How can u say he should go this season but u were giving him two years and say it wasn't bad in those first two years? The season has barely picked up and you're now saying he should go. How do you know how the season will end? So if he wins the CL you'll change your mind in June? We should judge via long term prospects not seasonal achievements. What long term benefits do we derive from this manager? Can this manager build something for United that fits in with the identity and mold of the club? Klopp would have been fired a long time ago like Pochettino. We need a vision right now. Not trophies which we are clearly not at the level to expect. Season by season mentalities work for Chelsea who seem to be able to function with this methodical madness. At United we need long term plans

This is what i wrote and then stopped

Not because of disrespecting you or anything of sort BUT I highly disagree the following and thats why I stopped

”You were wrong about defending him from day one as I was about LVG who won an FA Cup in his last season.”

Just because you defend and believe is the right fit feom day one, doesnt mean qhen things go bad, you should hide your head and say you were always wrong. Hell nah.
That’s why lets just agree to disagree.

If we talk about this season then YES agree, he has to go. Period

Mirianashe has said it all.
Neither the club, nor we the fans come out of these past 5 years with any clean hands.

Some were right about Moyes ( being a bad choice) in the beginning, some in the middle, others at the end.

Similar with LVG and Jose.

Jose Mourinho's position at the club is now definitely untenable.

Congrats to those who predicted that ALL 3 of our managers will ultimately fail to win us the league or play the United way, right at the beginning of their appointments.

Only those select few get to advice our board.
Names on a post card please.

Just for the records, I'm a NO on Zidane or Giggs. I'm getting my " I told you so " in pretty early this time....

For me it's not about being right or wrong in manager preferences. It's this trophy hungry mentality that is destructive. Season by season mentality. I know there are ppl who may have thought Mourinho apart from trophies was the right kind of figurehead for a big club like United. I'm ok with being wrong on that account because at least it's about "suitability". Not everyone follows football beyond the surface level even if they are true United fans. So the name Mourinho is immediately associated with big club capability. United being a big club it is sensible to want a manager capable of directing a big club.

But defending Mourinho TACTICALLY meaning you do follow football in general with greater interest, is a trophy thing. From a tactical level Mourinho is evidently not suited to a club that is known for attacking football. It's not a secret to people who debate tactics and therefore delve in deeper football details. In that case their endorsement is purely based on the fastest route to glory. I'm not arguing morally but pragmatically. This strategy works for Chelsea. Very well. Their only ambition is getting as many trophies as they can accumulate. The downside is they'll never be as prestigious or great in stature as United or Barça or Madrid who traditionally aspire to be the greatest football club in history. That's the key difference.

Mourinho's management of clubs is actually poor but it's easy for people not obsessed with details to not see it given the number of big clubs he has managed. But at least their endorsement is based on long term thinking of stability. Even if it's wrong or later proven to be misplaced. But endorsement based purely on trophies is the worst thing. It's short term thinking. It's a success now over development thinking. That's what I'm arguing against. It's exactly why Mourinho is here and exactly why we are suffering as an institution. Shortcuts don't work with big historical institutions.

So what is your suggestion? Who would you bring next?

Jay_Wire_Mirain September 29, 2018
I'd hire a technical director capable of drafting and implementing a long term attacking football institution from top to bottom. Meaning he will not only oversee the first team but the academy youth teams and mold a uniform system with the same philosophy of attacking football. "Who would you bring next" is very far from the solution because it's just as short term a thinking as before. Man City embarked on a football strategy in 2011 and no one paid attention. That's why their transitions have been smoother. They invested in an academy which will probably bear fruits several years from now. They have a long term strategy football wise and that's why they can transition easily from Pellegrini to Pep and not have problems. Their academy players are taught same philosophy. They hired ex Barça tech director back then to put this system together. We need to do something similar.

Some of yous do know this is just a fan online forum? Ppl's opinion mean fuck all in terms of how United is run or managed. Just look and sound petty gloating about our shit show, so what if ppl thought for longer or still think mou is correct for example, effects nothing online, just disagree or debate, but don't look to be holier than thou or as I say gloating about it, might aswell be fan of another club.

I will happily say I wanted Mourinho and thought he would change. I remember having a civilised discussion with Wayne about it and he said he really hoped I was right but in his heart he couldn’t see it.

Within a few weeks - starting with the humiliating of Basti it became apparent to me that Wayne was right about Mou being the wrong man for the club irrespective of his record. I tried my hardest to like and believe in the guy but in the end I just ended up disliking him as a person and still do. And don’t get me started on his ideas of how the game should be played.

All in all it’s just a sad state of affairs which I hope the people at top are working on putting right.

We have to change manager and we have to do it now. Get an interm manager if necessary. Then proceed with the following:

1. Sell a few players
2. Lend out Rashford
3. Buy Maguire or Alderweireld
4. Buy a right-sided attacking player such as Pulisic or Adama Traoré
5. Buy or loan a super-sub à la Solskjaer/Chicharito

All these things are doable. If we do them, we can still salvage top four and have a go in the CL. Then (or asap) we can begin to deal with the owners, Woodward, get a Director of Football and have a semi-major clearout of players.

The way I see it is Moyes' reign was a massive disaster but the size of the mourinho cock up is immeasurable..

I already mentioned how Moyes performed badly with a decent team and Mourinho performed even worse with an even better team!

Mourinho has just overseen the worst start to a season by Manchester United in 29 years.. worse than Moyes even.. made even more disastrous when you consider he's had a much easier start and he's had 2 years with the team..

And finally, when it comes to your opinion on mourinho doing better here than Moyes.. that's fine, I respect that.. and I respectfully disagree with you.. you can cite all the reasons you want and we'll go back and forth e.t.c and we'll probably never agree.. but please, by all means, say Moyes finished seventh, and Mourinho finished 2nd.. Moyes this mourinho that.. Moyes wasn't as tactically astute as Mourinho, Moyes won no trophies and Mourinho won 3.. e.t.c e.t.c

But saying Mourinho > Moyes because Moyes took the champions to 7th is invalid because Mourinho took them to 16th..

And peace, my friend..

WAU, mate last two were a built-up to this one .. too many lucky points, too many underperforming teams in top 6 and too much individual brilliance covered the cracks of completely fractured structure and lack of any plan or footballing philosophy other than relying on one of the expensive players to get 1:0..
There was never a hope other than first few games last season that Jose would change and here we are.
