Diouf: I’m Confident I Can Play For United - Republik Of Mancunia: A Manchester United Blog

Mame Biram Diouf has been strongly linked with a move away from the club, with Blackpool and Blackburn apparently interested in signing him on a permanent basis.

Diouf joined the club 18 months ago but has spent a whole season on loan at Blackburn, with his highlights including a hattrick against Norwich in the League Cup and scoring against Arsenal in his first start for the club.

The striker is currently on tour with United in America and is keen to dismiss rumours that he is leaving.

“I never heard anything about that,” said Diouf. “I am here. People are just saying things. I have to know before anyone else. It is not a big deal. I am confident I can play at Manchester United. Why not? You always have to think positively. You always have to do your best. I spent last season at Blackburn, which was a good experience for me. It helped me play some games in the Premier League. Now I am ready. The competition is really hard and I know I will have to take my chances. We will see what is going to happen but I want to stay. I have to show the manager why that should happen.”

With Wayne Rooney, Chicharito, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda all in the squad for next season, it is hard to see where there is room for Diouf.

Diouf looked quality in Seattle and I look fwd to seeing more of him.

Bear in mind we will lose Berbatov and Owen in a year or so and the we have:

Rooney, Wellbeck, possibly Young - 2nd strikers
Pea, Machaeda, Diouf - lead strikers

So we are fine on strikers once you take Owen and Berba out and I would prefer then to leave by next season and bring these guys into play more. So I don't think we are overloaded in that context and as SAF said he plans for the future, the promise these young guys show will also determine Berb and Owen futures.

Firstly I was amazed when SAF offered Owen a new contract. I thought why? we have good youth players coming through.............

Then It came to me, owen is the perfect role model in terms of runs etc for chicho.....

Worth every penny of a new contract and that goal against the chiteh of course.

I read that somewhere, in the aftermath of the loan-deal. And, I seem to recall that the manager - or one of the coaches - is also Portuguese.

I'm still warily optimistic that Bebe can prove the sceptics wrong - he did OK in the reserves, scored in Carling Cup and the CL (??). That's right after moving up from street footie, to the Portuguese third division, to Manchester United. Those are really, really giant steps so it's not altogether surprising that he didn't land on the third step faultlessly - it's the real world, not some Hollywood movie.

I think that you might want to consider adding Josh King and, maybe (fingers crossed that he can keep his nose clean and be a good boy !) Ravel Morrison to your list of 2012 strikers.

I think that you're over-estimating the importance of "role models" at this level; and, besides, what LittleMikey and Chicharito have in common - predatory instincts - can't be taught.

A more likely explanation is that SAF signed LittleMikey as "insurance" - to give himself the flexibility to have cover for Chicharito and - maybe ? - to have confidence that he could sell Dimitar Berbatov and get rid of his wages.

let's not forget, that it was LittleMikey who broke the bitters' hearts at OT last year; he's still a pretty good striker - he used to be a terrific striker but he's lost a step or two of acceleration and has become easier to defend against.

don't think he's good enough and with mecheda and welbeck breaking though i can't see him staying for long
