Just in case seeing Carlos Tevez with his arm around Patrice Evra put you off our defender, the Frenchman has got himself back in our good books following his comments about derby day.
“Sometimes we need mistakes to have a great game like this,” Evra said. “I really think we could have killed the game early on, but when we scored we started to make mistakes. I think for the fans, for everybody, for us, it was an amazing day today. To score like this in the last second of the game, it was just amazing. The players on the bench were coming on the pitch, the fans, the atmosphere – this is why I say thanks to God I play in the Premier League and for United. A day like this is just amazing.”
With Craig Bellamy scoring just seconds before normal time elapsed, Evra is fully aware that Michael Owen saved the day for us.
“It would have been very difficult to go inside the dressing room if we had drawn,” he added. “I think the manager would have given the hairdryer to everybody! It was important to win because City hadn’t lost a game. When we were drawing, I was thinking that people would start to say that City are still strong because they never lose. Now everybody has lost, except for Chelsea.”
