Marouane Fellaini has been asked to play in a number of positions for Manchester United this season, although lots of fans would rather he wasn’t played at all. While a good option to have to change a game, with United chasing a result, he simply isn’t good enough to start as regularly as he does.
In September, we beat Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford, with Fellaini playing as a striker, thanks to Wayne Rooney’s injury. Anthony Martial made his debut in the second half of that game, but having just signed, wasn’t ready to start. United fans were incensed when the teamsheet was announced, and Fellaini has acknowledged this wouldn’t be his ideal position either.
When your manager asks you to play in a position, you have to do it. When we played against Liverpool at the start of the season, I was asked to play as a striker. It wouldn’t be my choice of position, but I had to do it and we won the game. You have to just get on and deal with it.
My best friends always say to me: ‘think about yourself first’ and tell me to be more selfish. But I’m not like that. I am a professional, I am of service to the club and to the manager. My favourite position is at number six or number eight, but I will never have a problem with a manager because I do my job. When the manager asks me to do something, I do it.
