Sir Alex Ferguson has praised the Premiership’s highest scorer, Dimitar Berbatov, for the five goals he scored against Blackburn. However, the manager reckons the Bulgarian has enjoyed better performances, but understands it is by the goals that he scores that he will be judged.

“It was his best goalscoring performance,” said Ferguson. “There is only Andy Cole in my time that has scored five goals in a game. It was a marvellous achievement and his performance apart from that was excellent too and the whole team played well. Dimitar has probably played better in some games but to score five goals has to be recognised. Strikers are always going to be judged on the goals they score and Dimitar at this moment is the top goalscorer in the league which will give him great satisfaction. There have been critics of him which I always feel is a bit unfair.”
