Michele Fornasier scored a 94th minute header for the U21s tonight as we beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield. Liverpool were reduced to ten men early in the second half and will have felt as though they did enough to secure themselves a point. After an earlier brilliant save from Ben Amos, United waited until the dying seconds to secure the win, and went mental with their celebrations.
What tainted the evening was the false accusation from the commentators on Liverpool FC TV that Manchester United fans were racially abusing the Liverpool players, wrongly claiming that our fans were chanting “you black bastard”, when it was clear the usual “you scouse bastard” is what was being said. Desperation to try and level the score after one of their players was found guilty of racially abusing one of ours? Or one of their fans was found guilty in court after doing a monkey impression at Evra? Who knows, but distasteful all the same.
