Manchester United’s new summer signing, Fred, has been ruled out of Brazil’s opening World Cup game against Switzerland on Sunday with injury.
The 25-year-old limped out of a training session with Brazil last week following a challenge by Real Madrid’s Casemiro during a practice match.
Our midfielder returned to training a few days ago but Brazil’s manager, Tite, has claimed he won’t be ready in time for their first game of the tournament.
However, he has confirmed he will be available to play in Brazil’s second group stage game against Costa Rica next Friday.
Tite had decided to lower the intensity of Brazil’s training session ahead of their opening game in a bid to keep the players fresh for Switzerland, but they refused and insisted on having an intense training session.
Real Madrid’s Marcelo will captain Brazil on Sunday.
