Imagine being Reina there.

Literally, nothing he could do.

Goal of the season surely.

Brilliant goal. For what's it's worth, I actually rate his scissors kick against West Ham as a technically more difficult kick than this, even though he was facing the goal for that one. I can't find a working video of that one to refresh my memory, but as I recall, the ball came in at a really difficult angle and height, and he hit it first touch. What was remarkable was that on replay, you could see he got his foot up before swinging it around, which allowed him to hit it from behind. The natural instinct, I'm sure, would be to swing the leg around in a smooth arc, but then it comes up under the ball and skies it. Of course, he did the same thing with yesterday's goal -- hit the ball from behind, and of course, he has hit several similar goals for us in the past.

Still, if this is what we're reduced to, if this is what it's come to -- arguing over the relative merits of all these superb goals -- then only one conclusion is possible: the man really is a genius, because obviously, he isn't fluking it. Which means, of course, that we're likely to see more in future! Cheers!

Oh, and the other thing I wanted to comment on (and would love to see again on video, if anyone has a clip) was the smile of sheer fucking delight on the Boss's face right after that kick. You don't see that often!

As a long-time - and very vocal - BerbaSceptic, I was thrilled to see this production. Because "production" is what has been missing from his first two seasons at OT.

In some of my early season posts on this, I have wondered how SAF was going to get the Dimmy/Wazza connection to connect - he has surprised me (as he always does) by doing what would strike me as being counter-intuitive: shifting Berbatov to a more forward role and using WayneRooney as his water-carrier. So far, it's worked brilliantly for Dimmy; can WayneRooney adjust ?

I was also thrilled - absolutely thrilled - to learn that Anderson had a cameo. )I would have been even more excited if I had been able to watch the match but I was on the Canadian west coast where the match started @ 4:45 am and was over @ 7:00 am so there was no way to see it live.) And, to compound my joy in this regard, there have been reports that Owen Hargreaves has a "footie pulse" and I guess that the "faint hope" dictum means that he might be like another new signing.

But, to get back to Dimitar Berbatov, that second goal was pure brilliance but the third goal was more important - it rescued a victory from the jaws of a fourth draw in succession. And that was massively important for the team's chances of success this year. I've doubted the guy's contribution, not his skills - and he's doing one hell of a job of making me eat humble pie. I'd like to have seconds, please !

was sat in the stretford end yesterday, and god was it bouncing ! ! !

anyway - Scott knows I haven't been a huge Berba fan in the past - but i must say he has looked outstanding this season - its almost like he is trying to seduce me !

that goal - in real time looked like it was all in slow motion - one word: WOW !

Can anyone please post the lyrics of the song which is a mix of the old Steve Gerrard Gerrard song and something like Berbatov scored a hattrick...

Have seen it anywhere, but forgot the words.

Wayne - I live in Toronto but was visting the son-and-heir in Vancouver so not only was the televised match on Setanta shown live @ 4:30 am but I was not able to get access to a telly. At home, in Toronto, I spend a fortune on Setanta, GolTV, FoxSportsWorld, SportsNetOne, and TSN2 in order to see as many UTD matches as possible - SWMBO is not amused but it keeps an old man happy.

What is interesting to me is that I get to see many more UTD matches than my cousin who lives in M/C. My understanding is that coverage on the telly in Blighty is nowhere near as complete as we get here in the colonies. Pity, eh ?

Of course, Toronto is one of the most polyglot cities in the world so an utter footie-nutter could also watch SerieA, La Liga, and Bundesliga, as well as French, Russian, Brazilian, Argentine, Uruguayan, and Colombian matches - not to mention the North American, Australian, Japanese leagues and women's soccer as well as US college matches. The only major leagues that don't get shown on cable television here are from Holland, Portugal, and Greece and the last two are available in bars on The Danforth or College/Dundas on satellite.

A few years ago I watched damned-near everything but has settled back into UTD, UTD, UTD. I do wish that Setanta showed more of the UTD reserve matches on UtdTV but, hey, there are only so many hours in the day when I'm not reading/writing Republik of Mancunia.

While Berbatov is a class player, I think we can all agree that his scoring highs have been largely confined to lesser opposition. In terms of pure scoring against top opposition, this game is a breakout moment IMO. In previous years, there are 2 strikes against Chelsie that I can recall. Zero to Arse or Liverpool before yesterday. Maybe 2 against Totty. Don't recall a Champions league goal since 2008.
It seems obvious that Berb is an exceptionally astute reader of the game and that the fans comments impact him deeply. We need a relaxed confident Berbs. Better to get behind the lad and show him we care.

YEp, the long, diagonal ball from Darren Fletcherinho (football genius) was as good as anything we've seen from the GingerNinja. AND, let's not forget that Nani's pass to DimitarBerbatov was done with his LEFT foot.
