Ryan Giggs, who retired from International football to concentrate on his Manchester United career, believes that Rio Ferinand should have been awarded the England captaincy.

Whilst still complimentary of the Chelsea man, he thinks that Rio possesses the qualities of a proper England captain

“Obviously I am bias and I think Rio should have got it, but John Terry is a good player, a good professional and will make a good England captain,” said Giggs. “He [Ferdinand] is professional, he is still playing for Manchester United, still being picked for England every time he is fit so I am sure Rio will just get on with it. He will congratulate John Terry and still go on to produce performances like he has done over the last three or four years.”
