Shay Given has more sense than the deluded masses at Wastelands.

“It would be crazy to say we are on a par with United now just because City have new owners who have already spent a huge amount,” said Given. “United have got a fantastic history and a lot of trophies to show for it, so we’ve still got a lot of catching up to do. We need to win silverware. Once we have put a few trophies on the mantelpiece then we can start talking about closing the gap. We’re some way off that but we’re going in the right direction. Somebody tells me that the last time City won a trophy was when they lifted the League Cup in 1976 – the year I was born. I also think City beat United on the way to the final that year so that’s a nice little omen. But good omens aren’t going to get us through against the Premier League champions.”
