German newspaper, Bild, spoke to Mesut Ozil this morning after reports last night claimed that an £8m deal had been agreed between Werder Bremen and Barcelona.

Before then, it looked increasingly like that United would be signing him for £13m, after a very flustered Sir Alex Ferguson said “I don’t know” when asked whether we were interested in signing him, before leaving.

As several news sources have confirmed, Ferguson sends staff to watch opponents, unless it’s a big Champions League tie. Daniel Taylor of The Guardian has been told from sources at United that Ferguson went to watch the Fulham vs Werder Bremen friendly with the sole intention of watching Ozil.

The German paper doesn’t think Barcelona are interested in Ozil, with Pep Guardiola apparently saying he wanted to bring through their own players, rather than looking to the transfer market.

When asked this morning whether he was joining Barca, Ozil replied: “I know nothing! I have spoken to no one. “

Whilst it’s clear that no agreement has been made, as reported last night, it looks as though Ozil won’t be a Bremen player for much longer.

Werder Bremen’s director of sport Klaus Allofs told Kreiszeitung Syke newspaper that it was looking more likely Ozil would leave this summer. “It is possible that there is now a bit of movement on the issue,” he said. “But I am not running backwards and forwards to the fax machine or getting sweaty palms when I check my emails to see if maybe an offer has arrived.”
