Ander Herrera has begun to be used more regularly by Louis van Gaal over recent weeks, after playing a marginal role for much of Manchester United’s season so far.
Herrera is usually played closer to the striker, although has been used in a deeper midfield position too, but the player claims his preferred position depends on how the opposition play.
Everyone has asked me this in the media, but it always depends on the game. If you’re playing against a team who has everyone behind the ball and has the whole team defending, maybe it’s easier to play as a no.6 or a no.8 because you are more in contact with the ball. But when you can find the spaces like against Newcastle it’s better to play as a no.10. So it depends on the game but I will help the team wherever the manager wants me to play. I always say the same, I am a team player. I am happy because I want to play but I always want to help the team first.
