“I could only have been a red,” he said. “All my family were reds, so there was no way you could be a blue. I was at City as a youngster, from the age of nine. We were playing in a inter-league game and Brian Kidd pulled my dad to one side and said ‘what colour is your house?’ and he said ‘red, it’s always been red’, so Kidd said, ‘then what you doing with that lot?’. I went to Manchester United then and it was great to get involved with the club I had supported.”
