With 20 minutes played on Saturday, during Manchester United’s game against Huddersfield, Scott McTominay was taken out in the penalty area. Terence Kongolo flew in to McTominay and should have been sent off, with a penalty also due to be awarded.

Jose Mourinho was seen talking to fourth official Mike Dean, clearly incensed that referee Stuart Attwell hadn’t made the right call.

The manager was asked about the incident after the 2-0 win and he revealed that Dean agreed it should have been a penalty but that the referee must not have had a good view.

“Mike Dean is a very experienced referee and he was on my side,” he said. “He told me that from our position we had a much better view than the referee had in the position where he was.”

Attwell had a perfect view of the incident. The levels of incompetence to fail to dish out any punishment, and instead award a drop ball after stopping play because it was a head injury, are beyond belief.
