Religious leaders in Malaysia have told Muslims that they should not wear a Manchester United shirt because of the image of the red devil in the logo.

“There is no excuse for wearing such garments because it means, as a Muslim, you are idolising the symbol of another religion,” Datuk Nooh Gadot, the Mufti of Johor, said. “On this matter there is absolutely no compromise in the name of entertainment, fashion or even sports.”

Given our popularity in Malaysia, which is rapidly increasing thanks to the five year deal signed with Telekom Malaysia a few months ago, the Glazers may start to panic. What happens if Muslims around the world boycott the shirt?

Time to change the logo? I’m speaking tongue in cheek but honestly, I wouldn’t put anything past them!
