Giddy City fans all over Manchester were talking about Champions League football and trophies after their new rich owners came to town in the summer.

However, with player after player turning them down, their club just two points off the relegation zone and thirteen points behind where they were this time last season, the bubble has burst for the bitters.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who many reds have been a big fan of and hoped we would sign, has today spoken about his feelings on both Manchester clubs.

“There was interest in the summer, but these weren’t the clubs we had thought about,” said Huntelaar. “Manchester City didn’t meet our criteria. Manchester United? Maybe that would have been another story!”

Sadly, a deal worth as much as £23 million has been agreed with Real Madrid for the Dutch striker, with City’s £32 million bid being turned down, suggesting United didn’t go in for him as many of us had hoped us to do.

Regardless, it does bring a smile to my face every time another top players laughs off the idea of playing for City!
