After a fantastic breakthrough season at Manchester United in 2013-14, Adnan Januzaj has been on a downward spiral. He was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund last season but barely played and returned in January. He then made seven appearances for United and scored one goal in the second half of the season.
This summer, Jose Mourinho loaned Januzaj to Sunderland where he was reunited with David Moyes, the manager he had succeeded under in his first season. He hasn’t had a great time there either but still has his eye on returning to United.
The youngster has revealed that Paul Pogba, a friend from their time in United’s academy, wants Januzaj to come back to United too.
Paul is a great player. He made a different choice but eventually he was successful and he has returned. He remains a great player. He’s a very good friend. At United, we were always together. We went to dinner together, played the Playstation. He was a brother to me.
Of course, Paul asks if I’ll be back at Manchester United. He wants to play with me. But I am now at Sunderland and I have to do what’s right for the club. These are decisions from above. I’m a professional footballer and I have to remain professional and work.
