Phil Jones was a transfer target for several top clubs this summer, however, as soon as personal terms were agreed with United, he showed no interest in talking to any other club. In fact, Liverpool were so desperate to sign him, they offered Blackburn another £6m on the price we had offered for him, but the player declined to talk to them.

Jones has today revealed that having the opportunity to play for Sir Alex Ferguson was the main reason behind his decision.

“He was a massive part of it,” he said. “As soon as I knew United were interested it was a no-brainer for me. I knew what a great manager he was and all the great players he has brought through over the years. It has been fantastic. I was really hoping that I could work with him and thankfully the deal went through.”
