Manchester United U-21s won the title this evening after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at White Hart Lane.

United had gone 2-0 up with goals from Donald Love and Andreas Pereira, only for Spurs to make it 2-2 with five minutes left to play.

Then, in the 94th minute, Guillermo Varela struck the ball brilliantly to make it 3-2, and win the title for United. The players, as you would imagine, went crazy.

Manager Warren Joyce was waiting to be interviewed by MUTV when the players came out of the dressing room and soaked him with their water bottles.

Eventually, still drenched, Joyce was able to give an interview.

We made a little video today. You look at some of those lads and they’ve been here since they were seven or eight. So we made a compilation showing their progress all the way through, also showing how we’ve won the league in the last few years. I think that’s six out of seven. We beat Tottenham at Old Trafford after being 2-0 down, then came back and won it 3-2 in the 90th minute [in 2013]. We won at Newcastle, when we were 3-0 down, and won 6-3. There were some clips of them abroad, clips of the Youth Cup, really good memories. The lads were made up with it.

We talked about how Man United have won games and won titles in the past, late on. Unfortunately, there was a clip on it where I got soaked on the side of the pitch… I talked about them making memories for themselves tonight, well they’ve certainly made one for me!”
