Andrei Kanchelskis was a top quality United player, bombing down the wing long before the days of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. With the cuff of his shirt in his hand, he provided goals for the likes of Eric Cantona and Mark Hughes. He was also capable of scoring the odd goal or two for himself, bagging a superb one against Oldham in the FA Cup.
Kanchelskis visited our players yesterday ahead of the Cup final this evening to wish them luck. He has fond memories of the glory days at United, remembering keenly the 1994 double-winning side that beat Chelsea 4-0 in the FA Cup at Wembley.
Today, he has said he hopes for a repeat result for the reds tonight.
“I remember when I played in the FA Cup final in ’94 we beat them 4-0 – I hope for the same result this time round!” Kanchelskis joked. “It was great to see all the players, particularly some of my old team-mates like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. I’ve also seen the boss and wished him all the best for Wednesday. I had four great years at Old Trafford. The players, the staff and the fans are something special. They are the still the team in my heart. It’s a huge day for the club on Wednesday. There have already won one trophy and I’m confident they’ll win a second.”
Fancy a 4-0 tonight? 😀
