The press thought Sir Alex Ferguson had lost the plot when he invited aging star, Henrik Larsson, to join Manchester United on loan the season before last. Larsson went on to score in every competition and was an important part of the team that went on to win the title for the first time in four years.

However, with the fond memories fading, he has today had a swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo though, ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifier against Portugal.

“I intend speaking with the referee before the match to warn him about Ronaldo diving,” said Larsson. “We must be careful, as a team, not to get caught out by that, but so must the referee. I will be having a word with him and telling him to keep an eye out for it.”
