Victor Lindelof began the season in the starting XI, managing an assist in our 5-1 win over Leeds, but has since been replaced by Raphael Varane. Speaking to Fotballdirekt, Lindelof has spoken about his happiness over bringing in new competition to the squad.
I think it’s great. I play in one of the world’s biggest clubs and it’s clear that you want good players. It’ll always be a competitive situation. I only see it as positive that we get good players into the club. It will only develop us. For my own part, I see no problem with it. Sometimes I may not play a match but, for me, it does absolutely nothing. I have played a lot the last two years and, last year, I had back problems and played with some pain.
Captain Harry Maguire echoed the same sentiments and is looking forward to further strengthening his connection with the four times Champions League winner.
Obviously it’s really exciting to get him at the club and to work alongside him. Him coming in will bolster the defensive unit. We can learn from each other and push each other and that’s what we want for the club. We want to keep more clean sheets and the more competition the better.
