It was a great game to watch, end to end in that 2nd half, Feel sorry for the Aussies theyve played well in both games and have nothing to show for it. The dutch are what i expected at the start olf the tournamnt, great going forward, poor at the back, The aussies penalty can be given either way, the defenders arm was away from his body so he give the ref a decision to make, Tim cahils goal wont be bettered in the world cup, to smash a volley from a 30/40 yard ball is one of the hardest skills around and to smash it in off the bar, terrific goal and not bad considering he was just called a target man by Samual yesterday, I can imagine a Karston Y(W)anker scoring a goal like that somehow. RVP does what he does best he just scores goals, Cracking game of football.

Australians knew and played this match as do or die. They gave everything they had. Anyone who watched them against Chile knows Aussies are not the ones to roll over. They gave their maximum and beyond. It was an entertaining game. All the best to Aussies in future. They resembled spirit of USA.

I am afraid but the truth is anyone who comes against tactical genius Manchester United manager is bound to go home hiding their tail between their legs.

Vincete Del Bosque, the moustache man, got it shaved so who else is there to stop Van Gaal?

I think in different sense this victory for Holland was as good as against Spain esp if we consider the fact that Aussies were sure to give their 200% which they did.

Overall an entertaining game of football.

Tough game for Spain tonight, If Spain win tonight, for me they will beat Brazil in the last 16 and maybe go onto win it, really difficult to call tonight

After a long time spain are in such pressure so this will test their character. Chile won't leave. So if Spain wins today then normal business resumes and Spain may very well go far. But I cant see them winning.

Also how the fuck does led gets selected but mata to koke doesn't. I feel preference is given to these barca fan boys.

Well anything is possible in football but I just can't see Spain winning this World Cup tbh.

And yeah match against chile shall give us a clue how they lift their shattered confidence!

The importance of Holland victory is that it provides huge boost for any opponent of Spain to take a reference that they too can do it. That's the side effect of humiliation, I am afraid!

is it just me or does tiki-taka look a bit outdated already? spain getting fucked by holland, bayern taking one up their shit box by real madrid. what have barca even done with their tiki taka for the past couple of years

I'm know I'm kicking a man when he's down, but Casillas really was shocking again there. I think he's finished at the highest level as a goalkeeper. This is his last tournament.

Casillas has had a tournament to forget . Imagine if that was de gea whole media and fans would have bashed him. Also Costa Is having a stinker and yet media projects him as a top striker but rooney as shit.
Nothing against Costa but Rooney anyday is a better player than costa

all the best performing teams in this world cup have used 5 at the back. with atleast 2 ballplaying centre backs, 1 defensive midfielder, 2 box to box midfielders 2 box to box full backs an out and out striker and one player with blistering pace and goalscoring ability.

if thats uniteds future then its great news for janko, powell, wilson, welbeck, jones, evans, rafael.

also makes the likes of pogba, strootman, shaw, vermaelen look like possible transfer targets

I know this seen as blasphemy on here, but I actuslly think Danny Murphy has been decent in the commentary box tonight. A hundred times better than the awful pairing of Clark Carlisle and Sam Matterface at itv today.

gary - hes been great. im so glad the bbc have had the majority of the games for this world cup. i put it on mute whenever i hear clarke carlisle or andy fucking townsend talking. as for adrian chiles how the fuck is he on tv. old fat ugly as shit and never kicked a ball in his life, why is he the main man for football on itv!

another thing, where the fuck has this ref found 6 minutes of injuy time from?! any challenge spain make he thinks it through and dosnt make it out to be a foul. anytime chile tackle a spanish player he blows up and gives out a yellow. seems very harsh on chile to me

Chiles is the worst presenter of all time, I think ITV signed him to a massive contract to do daytime TV as well as a bit of football but the ratings on daybreak were so low that they soon got rid of him and now hes earning a fortune to do the football because they have to use him somewhere, when his contract is up theyll get rid, on another note id be embaressed to be lampard, chiles was knocking off christine bleakley before him, being a sloppy seconds to chiles haha

tommy - wouldnt be surprised. i once emailed itv asking why they put up with a wanker like townsend on their commentator team and told them the big nosed wanker would be better off working in the itv canteen or flipping burgers at mc donalds. i got a formal email back explaining about how they get emails everyday complimenting him on his commentating. i replied with a simple 'bullshit!'

as for those of you on here tonight with a full pack of tissues and fancy a great vid on the internet to make you smile - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qjx2nklbLsw

Id of prefered Busquets on the end of it than Toress lol, he really is awful and so was Costa, 5 shots in this tournament and 0 on target, chelsea have a history with Spanish forwards, well hopes he flops

I don't know whether it is destiny but the Dutch taught Spaniards how to play tiki-taka and Dutch themselves took their football soul. :)

I don't think it's mere coincidence that Barcelona La Masia was revoulatized by Van Gaal, 4-3-3 was taught to them by Cruyff. Bayern set up founded majorly by Van Gaal basically ended Barca dominance with 7 goal thrashing. And their national team dominance was ended basically by Van Gaal 5 goal thrashing.

Well nothing is over and predictable in football particularly but the spainish football should be thankful to Dutch total football for giving them a rewarding spell in the history of football. For it may never return. :(

Tommy, who's your money on now? I don't fancy Brazil at all. Argentina were not great the other night but still posses a threat. Surely it's Germany's time? Hopefully the injury Hummels picked up against Portugal isn't too serious.

tommy - i hate busquets so much when i saw he had missed i fell to the floor laughing haha

as for thinking about united, we are actually very lucky with what we get to see at this world cup. we have got to see LVG play a variety of different teams and seen him in different situations

spain - the apparent best team in the world and world champions. went 1-0 down and got his team to turn it around with his attacking tactics and philosophy and ended up thrashing the apparent best team in the world 5-1!

australia - a lesser team that will defend deep and try to hit holland on the counter attack. firstly LVG had to stop his players get complacent, after thrashing the world champions it would have been easy for them to have thought they had beaten australia before a ball had been kicked. went down 1-0 and managed to grind out a 3-2 win against a team that defended in numbers

chile - chile are another team that are completely different to the other 2 teams in the group. they have out and out hunger and play as a team and will not let you have the ball without having intense pressure put on you. as LVG is all about the possession game but actually doing something with it then this will be a very difficult match for holland. not only that but chile are also used to the climate.

so far hes got 2 out of 2, lets hope it becomes 3 out of 3!

To be honest mate, I fancy Chile to top the group. People on here know I predicted Chile to qualify before the compeition (Admittedly at the expense of Holland and not Spain) in fairness to Spain, they live and die by the way they play, they play the samen if their 1 0 down as they do if their 5 0 up, theirs never a lot of urgentcy in their play, you will see them play exactly the same way being behind in the 92nd minute as you would the first kick of the gam,e, so whilst to some it may seem like their not trying in fact their just playing how their taught to play and they live and die by it. I think Chile have a real shot of going all the way, the pace and intensity that they play at and they know the conditions well being south american.

Tommy, Chile were excellent tonight, but I just think Spain have become predictable to play against. There' literally no plan b with Spain, there time is up and maybe a new direction is needed? Moyes is available, he could be the man to get the best out of that bruiser Diego Costa.

I think if Chile came up against Germany they'd be in big trouble. The German's can match them for strength and intensity and mix up their play. They've been the best international team to watch for 4 years now and if England can't win it (which we all know they can't) I'd like to see Germany win it.

Don't rule out the Italians though. They're going quietly about their business as per usual much like 2006.

@Tommy

Yeah you are right about Spain mate. The major difference between Spain and Chile style of play is that Spain tries to flood/control midfield at the centre of the park whereas Chile tries to flood/control at the final third. I think that's the major difference I have noticed in their style/ approach of play.

So the tactics Holland employed against Spain can work well against Chile too. As you also may have noticed that actually Chile were lucky to grab a victory against Australia more than Holland. And let's not forget it was their first match which means lot less fired up Aussies.

I, therefore, think Holland will win against Chile. Actually, I fancy Holland to go all the way upto atleast Semis tbh.

Germany are, of course, the favourites watching all the teams so far but so were Spain before the start. Any team is one game away from next phase now. So it's exciting World Cup this time after 1998 me thinks. I was a kid back then watching Zidane, Ortega and Batistuta. And, my favourite team was Argentina that time tbh.

Van Der Sar was someone I hated as a kid as the tossle with him led Ortega red carded. :) It was interesting World Cup 1998.

I think this World Cup is rejuvenating the essence of World Cup we know after a long time tbh.

RVP will be a miss, hes suspended mate and I just think the pace they play at will be too much for the Dutch defence, Thats why they wont reach a semi I dont think their defence is upto much, its not a vintage dutch side, its heavelly relieing on RVP and Robbin and De Jong breaking thingsd up, apart from that, I just dont see enough quality in their sideto go far, the Germans have quality thoughout the squad and Argentina have strong forwards and a good defence and Chile play at such a high pace, also dont discount its practically turning into a home tournament for Chile, even the ticketless fans are getting in. Ive seen them batter Englands first choice side with a 2nd string and they also beat Germany in Germany comfortably as well I think, you cant count out the Italians even though its hardly a great side they tend to play well when backed against a wall

Mate, I think this is where the tactics and importance of manager/trainer comes into spotlight. As far as I know the way Chile plays is a certain style and from the interviews of Vidal to other players to their manager they are uncompromising in their style of play. So there you go!

Of Course, RVP is a big miss but Van Gaal is there.

Let's not forget that both team are now qualified and it's a battle for winning the group.

I think the match between Chile and Holland will be won by sheer tactics of Van Gaal as the uncompromising certain style pressing high up the pitch of Chileans allows Van Gaal to work on tactics to outsmart them. This is a manager who went against whole Dutch public to change 4-3-3 to 5-3-2 when former is like 4-4-2 in England interms of tradition. So, I am sure he will work it out. For me minimum is a draw and my prediction is 3-2 win in favour of Dutch.

Mate, I think that match shall remind you the importance of manager for any team. The game is about outsmarting the opponent not the trophy to better players. :)

I agree the manager is important of course but I see mistakes from the dutch defence and Chile have a good defence who counter quickly, you go behind and its a long way back, for me Holland have got to score first to win the game, to be honest not sure who id rather play in the next round Brazil or Mexico (Assuming they beat Croatia) so we might see a great game or we might see both teams make loads of changes (Giving the squad to have a run oujt) and it being a shit game with both teams all ready through, we shall see mate

Youre right though mate, maybe im giving LVG a disservice and I want to see them do well as I do all United players (With the exception of my home country which may surprise you mate lol), he did get his tactics spot on against Spain, id love to be proved wrong but I dont see those defensive mistakes being cut out, Take today, Holland werent great and should of conceded to go 3 2 behind before scoring against the better sides theyd be punished and probably wouldnt get back into the game, I woud love Louis and RVP to bring home the world cup with them but I think they will fall short, a quarter final at best I think, Heres one ive heard a lot of people fancying, France, theuir just quietly going about their buisness.

Well after seeing Song in this world cup, I really hope no one menbtions him again as a potential signing, he was awful against Mexico and now has just got himself sent off stupidly
