I just don't think Moyes is the man to inspire that free flowing attacking, win at all costs football. Nearly 50 games away to the top sides and no wins suggest that. Everyone were always solid. Very steady and hard to beat. Once a manager has been setting up that way for over a decade I don't see how he can change his style. He seems like a nice guy and all and I know he'll try his absolute best at United but I just think he was the wrong appointment. I want to have faith in him so badly. I just don't though. Even the way Steve Round was ranting away on the touch line trying to Marshall the troops just felt so amateurish. Reminded me of Sammy Lee at Liverpool.

I think moyes needs to have some of the blame laid at his door. Why when you know you are taking the hardest job in the game would you dispose of the most succesful coaching staff around. The work which they put in and the results they have achieved were overlooked for moyes to create a sense of familiarity. P.Nev, Round et all do not inspire confidence. A club like Manchester United should not be watching the pennies and essentially falling behind all competitors. The blame for this overall is the glazers, and i feel that moyes is their perfect yes man who will put up with the reduced budget. and please dont state oh we spent £40m. its all relative. £40m isnt what it was unfortunately due to the likes of city ruining the market.

Its a slippery slope, and we only need to look at Liverpool and see what the consequence of failing to quality for the champions league is. One year out becomes a continual.

In the space of a couple months the management and board have reduced united to becoming a laughing stock. and its all very well blaming the team, but this is a squad which walked to the title last year.

Everton were always very solid it meant to read. This blog is so slow and keeps freezing. Reminds me of our performance yesterday in a lot of ways.

For all of you who seem to believe us old'n'bold supporters from the pre-Fergie era are defending the team and are anti-criticism - we're not! Far from it in fact. The performance yesterday by the team wasn't anywhere near the required standard, man for man every player under-performed in my opinion.

However, the slow start we've had to the season does not warrant calls for sacking the manager or certain players (I think just about everyone of them has been personally blamed at some point in this thread) never to pull on the red shirt again.

I don't agree with all of Moyes' team selections or tactics thus far (I actually thought the 11 picked for the Liverpool game look weaker on paper than yesterday) but I do believe he's the right man for the job and that this might just be the kick up the back side the team need.

We can field a much changed but potentially exciting team on Wednesday evening and the team selection plus the reaction by the players will tell us more about Moyes than anything that has since passed.

All you doom and gloom neysayers seem to forget that United have lost (and lost badly) plenty of times under Fergie (and then some under Big Ron) but always bounced back bigger and better for the experience. I expect the same to happen again - starting on Wednesday evening!

For me, we had the midfield wrong and we couldn't keep the ball which put our defense under pressure.
Can't blame the defense when your mid field is turning the ball over in your own half all day long.
Young was dire.
Things improved when Cleverley got on and started completing passes. But the damage was done.

Like you, I don't want to get on Moyes' back so early on and some allowance has to be made for that opening run of fixtures. When all is said though, t is what it is though and Moyes repeated whining with the suggestion that there has been manipulation against us is a bit embarassing and only serves to benefit the Abu's and our opponents. Previously, this wouldn't have been an issue as we had the arrogance / confidence borne out of our immense ability to roll over teams, whoever they were and irrespective of how the balls fell out the bag.

There is cause for hope though. With the clutch of youngsters that have emerged recently giving the promise of an exciting future. I only hope that the few that haven't gone on loan, in particular Januzaj, is given regular chance to shine, beginning on Weds against the scousers. A good performance and victory will go someway in undoing the hurt from yesterday. The bigger question will be whether Moyes is the man to restore our big game belief?

Giggs tried to do something about Nastachic but it wasn't enough.

What's the point of AshleyBloodyYoung ?

But it wasn't just one man's screw-up; it was a clusterfuck.

From what I saw, Rio and Vidic were "watching" the game rather than playing - they were really schooled by Aguero's movement and looked very old in comparison to Kompany who was the best player on the pitch.

But, more to my first point, I don't understand why SAF (and now Moyes) have persisted with Young - and Valencia, for that matter. (DannyTheLad "thinks" too slowly, too.) This touchline-hugging winger stuff was just awful and, abetted by Smalling's inability to properly support the attack, meant that UTD's two strikers were ALWAYS outnumbered in the danger area.

Why have a skilled player like KagawaBunga if he's not used to pry open tight defences ?

Why have Nani on the bench when he's UTD's best "winger" ?

Why not play Chicharito to stretch their defence ?

The only positive thing about the team selection/tactics was that TheLegend was on the coaches' bench looking perplexed rather than on the pitch.

We as Fans judge players by every game/ every minute on the pitch. the team gets judge by what silverware they bring in at the end of the season! After that humiliation, i've got to hide till Wednesday's game which a win there would go a long way into healing sundays wounds.

Looking at the bench yesterday i still believe we have the squad to win the league. 3 games aginst the bigger clubs 1 point to call ours, yet we are only 3 points off the pace. nothing to cry about however, as a team we have to get better.

off topic:: that threat about moyes getting the players fitter, did RvP get hurt in training? maybe out delicate flower doesn't need to be put through a rigorous training routine as everyone else. Moyes also need to find a way to keep Rio and Vidic fresh, they can be the best pairing of CBs on their day but that's on a day when they are fresh, not on the back of three games in a 10 day span.

The gaffer will learn to use the squad, it is deep and with the right touch a top class squad. i hope he rings of his fellow scot and get a tip or two

A boring day, the aftermath of last day demolition is still floating in my day dreams.now we should move one, we all had a tough lesson and am sure the manager, the staff and all the players will take this lesson wholeheartedly, that is what you get when you are not mentally prepared for such a big game, perhaps a bit of Leverkusen delights and complacency.sure we will get over it and come back, the response is there to take.let it begin against the pool first!!come on lads.

Enough of the touchline-hugging bullshit; here's a plan for TheLads to follow:

"The two main ingredients – order and flexibility – are mundane enough but it's all in the mixture ratio. In possession, Bayern line up in four lines with two centre-backs, the full-backs pushed up alongside the deep-lying midfielder, four attacking midfielders and a striker. The three central midfielders constantly switch positions, and the wide players are encouraged to move inside to create a funnel of pressure in the middle."

It's now time for the new manager to move away from SAF's personnel, formation, and strategies. If he persists in playing AshleyBloodyYoung (and AV25 and TheLegend, too) then he's not TheMoyessiah but just a naughty boy.

Don't believe everything you read in the 'Daily Hate' - no source is listed and City have tunnel cam I think wher they record everything that happens in the tunnel pre-during-post match and then broadcast it on youtube. If the above incident occurred, I suspect it will appear online. Can't quite see it myself. Nothing wrong with Giggs having a word with a match offical, it happens all the time at all levels of the game.

Regarding the physicality of the match - I thought the City defenders got the rub of the green from the ref first half, especially Kompany - another day he would have picked up a booking early on, instead, with Rooney getting booked it just encouraged him to push the boundry of fair play as he so often does.

Now I'm not blaming the ref for the defeat, far from it, but for me he got at least 2 (prob more)decisons wrong re Rooney/Kompany that was an important factor early on in the game.

I always try to remember that statement, he said it in a very emotional dramatic way.as if he knew what gonna happen to poor David Moyes, he knew the fat that fans will put the new manager under a lot of pressure.the truth is Moyes is still learning things at this club and we must give him all the times he wants, for GOD sake this is not Sunderland or Osasuna"with all due respect of course"we are here talking about a school of football......

blacksocks. Rub of the green is one way of putting it. But this is what citah have been doing for 3 years. Lots of hard fouls in first 15 minutes and then back off. knocked Nani out of the game for the 6-1. good point about the tunnel cam. Worth a look.

I changed my mind. So what? The blog needs people like me, who speak THE TRUTH. If I'm a cockroach for changing my mind, then what a pair of cockroaches this club had in Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Scholes, who changed their minds about retiring in 2002 and 2012 respectively.

@Costas

If this blog has "gone to the shitter" as you say then what is keeping you here? Bit of a hypocrite aren't you. I think it's about time Scott The Red banned your ungrateful ass.

I can understand Valencia starting as he did have a good game in midweek. However we're continually told that one of Valencia's strengths over Nani is that he tracks back, ironic that City's first goal arose because Valencia did not track back when he should have. However still feel Valencia can do a good job for United & don't think he's as bad as some united fans make out. Just think Moyes needs to give Nani & Zaha more chances, they certainly should be picked ahead of Young, who was shocking yesterday.

Fergie had a lot of faith in Jonny Evans, who has not had a look in under Moyes. He has to be a better bet than Rio who has been poor in the last 2 games. I've been a big fan of Rio down the years, but now I think age has caught up with him & he should no longer be an automatic starter. Evans was usually reliable under Fergie & I believe he should start ahead of Rio.

I think Fergie was the master at tinkering with his line ups & keeping players fresh. Seems to me Moyes is afraid to do this, could cause problems as the season progresses.

Why has not a word been said by the media about Kolarov's embarrassing dive in the first half yesterday & why did he not get a yellow card for it ? - same as when Ashley Cole dived against us a few weeks ago. A week ago the media & abu's went into overdrive about Young's embarrasing dive against Palace ( for which he got a card) yet when a non-United player dives not a word is said - hypocrites !

@Fletch

Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say we were outclassed by a better team. That's what happened yesterday and at Old Trafford in October 2011.

David Moyes is not the man to lead Manchester United. A blind man could see that and I'll bet not one person on here would have chosen Moyes to replace Sir Alex. I had the "audacity" to say it during the summer and received a lot of abuse from a vocal minority who have gone very quiet after Moyesy's Boys were battered by a team who look lightyears ahead of us tactically and talent-wise.

too many supporters on here going through the tactical bullshit, trying to make themselves sound smarter than the other. It really could'nt be simpler.... we had wide men starting against city that would'nt get a kick with either city, spurs, chelsea or even arsenal!!. and then to make matters worse we have people on here crying out for nani.. nani???u must be joking me!!This is the thing that is particularly worrying for me as nani is nowhere near good enough to represent manchester united and renewing his contract recently speaks volumes about where this club is at!

Really hard to take yesterday but i think i expected it. Listen up reds we'll be OK we'll get there under Moyes and as Fergie said in his speach at the end of last season it's up to us now to get behind him. We can't start shouting for his head it's too early and it's just not the United way we aren't fucking Chelsea. Let's see where we are in February eh? Things won't improve if we start to lose faith. We'll be ok, were man United for fuck sake.

I'm not calling for his head. I'm just questioning his appointment. He got a brilliant reception on his home debut because when United are playing the team and the staff need our support. A high percentage of those fans cheering his name and supporting would have still had reservations about his appointment I can assure you.

With the line up used yesterday, everything seemed so static and pedestrian. We literally played into the hands of city with the formulaic and orthodox passes that were lumped in from deep or on our rare sorties up the field. With Carrick and Fellaini's reluctance in pressing forward, it was left to Rooney once again to drop in and act as provide/creator. In other words he was trying to be in two places at once..
Forget yesterday's result, it's gone. The question is how does Moyes utilise a more dynamic and less predictable style of play? One in which the emphasis is placed on inteligent ball usage and player movement and not sticking to an out dated and rigid set position.

when we are clearly not blessed with having a golden crop of wingers, a facet that is deeply ingrained within the fabric of the club's history feature synonomous with our history, why do we place such emphasis on this. What happened to playing to our strengths?

When fully fit the absolute certainties are De Gea, Vidic, Carrick, Rooney and RVP. In my eyes every other position is up for grabs. I think Fellaini will be a useful foil for us, plus his height means he offers an an added attacking and defending dimension to the team. I think Nani should be given his opportunity down the right, as he at least provides unpredictability and can be a match winner on occasion.

I would love to see Kagawa given some sustained match time on the left of midfield, as a false left winger therefore allowing Evra offering a threat from the flank, with Kagawa being able to tuck in, offering both solidity and being in a more central position to work in an axis with Rooney and RVP in beginning and threading our attacks. Rafael will work in tandem with Nani. There will be more movement and lessrigidity.

What's to lose Moyes? The old way is looking outdated and doesn't suit the personnel. Furthermore it is becoming easy to nullify by all but the weakest of teams.

That about sums it up. The only reason we didn't get battered more is because city took their foot off happy to give us the ball for the last 40 minutes and let us play out time. That's almost worse than continuing to put us under pressure. The weren't even arsed enough to bother it was that easy for them. Very disappointed by the lack of changes in personnel and tactically.

Was shocked to see this lineup for United, Welbeck upfront, no seriously??? With players like Kagawa or even Chicharito available I fail to understand how Moyes could start them from the bench, while Young's career is well over, he needs to be dumped out in Jan if possible, and let Zaha or Nani play on that left wing

I'm the usual not a poster / regular reader guy... and always liked the debates/banter I found on the website - but after days like yesterday the blog just turns into clueless comments from football "fans" rather than supporters and it's getting pathetic!
How can someone with half a football brain think that people like Januzaj would have changed the game yesterday?!? is that because you have read/heard/seen him perform well for a couple of reserve games? Or was it the 20 minutes in the first team that made him the supposedly obvious choice on the left? ...or maybe it was just those good games against Dong Fonzhu FC and the Singha Lao Lao selection?
guess it's after days like yesterday that we see what "supporting" really means.
To all the cunts asking for Moyes/Young/anybody's head, you take the good and the bad... that's what supporting a club means. Young is one of our players. he might be playing shit on a regular basis, but he's still one of ours, and if Fergie and Moyes pick him I'm sure they see/know more than we do. he's an easy scapegoat. he'd be a good squad player, but slagging him off all the time certainly won't help his game. Go back to your fantasy world where Maureen is our boss, and Yaya Toure, Tevez, Falcao, Thiago Alcantara & co are winning us every single game.
We've played shit like yesterday I don't know how many times under Fergie, but as with the moronic media, idiots will have a selective memory. Young might not be Evans, Carrick or Fletcher, but they were all in his boots at some point in their careers. Unfortunately for Young, he ain't young anymore, so gonna be tough to prove you wrong!

Hope there's a reaction against the Racist and the Thieves on Wednesday!

Well when Ashely Young came out before the Manchester derby and publicly said we can win 4 trophies this season and United are "the greedy bunch" he puts himself out there to be shot at if he wasn't already. Roy Keane would have kicked people like him into place. He should be criticised and so should Fergie and Moyes for ever signing and playing him. £16 million for Young who had one year left on his contract at Villa. No value in the market we hear. Herrera a player who plays in a position that we're absolutely desperate in at the moment was apparently not worth the money as we were not prepared to go above a certain valuation or so the club would have us believe.

well yesterday was a catostrophe to say the least n like me every1 else is hurt to see our beloved united loose like that but as they say shit happens so lets hope we beat the scousers n kick start our season from that but u hav to ask questions of moyes n the players.
Like every1 else i hav the same question...y on earth young started( to make things worse he was the 1 who gav the ball to shitty for the 2nd n 4th goal)
Y rio was on the pitch cuz hes too old to start so many games
y was our team so dull n looked disinterested
y ddnt moyes use chicha n kags when we were 4-0 down
these were a few of the many negatives from the match.
the only positive if rooney had taken that open goal chance n evera had scored instead of hitting the bar n then that rooney freekick then who knows what would hav happend.point is luck wasnt on our side either cuz every 50/50 ball was falling to shitty players, coward web did everything possible not to giv us anythng either.
So lets hope we move on n play like the united way from now on :)
