Ashley young passes more to the central defenders than he does to his co midfielders or strikers. What's the point of giving him, a winger the ball, he just plays it backwards.

At least a black is attracting something. Ours is just attracting problems. I can't understand how Anderson can't get a chance after such poor performances match after match. Can he do worse then our midfield is actually doing ?

I think the payers are so scared of conceeding the midfield are sitting on top of the defenders at times leaving Rooney and Kags isolated.

More tempo needed, pass with pace and support the passing with quick movement.

Come on lads!

Giggs still playing is like watching a builder destroying what he spent 20 years building.... We're playing a bunch of Brazilian 23year olds with a 40 year old has been and a makeshift midfielder with the speed and agility of an aircraft carrier.... In the Champions League.... Unbelievable !!!!

I have not really enjoyed watching us playing now for 3 seasons but whilst we were winning everyone told me I was mad. This squad needs major surgery. Rio and giggs should both retire to the coaching staff. If you consider fletcher, evra and vidic who are all coming to the end of their carriers I only rate 7 of our squad as world class two of which in my ideal formation play in the same position, that being Rooney and vp. We need to replace the 3 players I just mentioned with similar world class players plus a world class creative midfielder. But I don't think we have the money to get the players we need.

Rooney drops into the midfield and suddenly we hold on to possession. I wish he would stop crying about playing up top and play in the mid until january.

Two things:

1. as for a defensive mid/central def Jones has outstanding shooting technique
2. the last (missed) chip showed why we were missing RvP so much - his ability to create a position out of nothing is what we need considering our mid creation problems.

Paul scholes jr - I'm sorry, didn't united just buy a supposed central.midfielder in fellaini? Or was that squandered on a disguised false striker?... Without rooney up top, united look toothless.

Well Fergie is vindicated a bit on Rooney, though we all knew it anyway. The change is made, RvP goes up front, Rooney drops back and its 1-0 within minutes. Rooney shouldn't play as a lone striker... not sure what they means for Shinji Kagawa but it is what it is.

Anyway, it wasn't pretty but we topped the group unbeaten in six. Its ironic that Moyes has had pretty much no struggle in Europe so far.

Big game against Villa at the weekend.

BTW... top respect for Old Trafford faithful tonight, dreadful first half but still applauded Moyes on and sang for him all second half. Class support! If it was chelsea there would be effigies of him burning already

So Wazza assist @ Jones goal. Guy said Jones best player.

Wazza loves TO let RvP lead the line. He then can go find the game. AJ a full 90, clean sheet DDG!

So this Jones lads critics about MF? He just turned 21 right? Baller, game changer game winner.
Like Wazza.

@Dela
"Well Fergie is vindicated a bit on Rooney, though we all knew it anyway. The change is made, RvP goes up front, Rooney drops back and its 1-0 within minutes. Rooney shouldn’t play as a lone striker… not sure what they means for Shinji Kagawa but it is what it is."

Think the Kagawa experiment is nearing an end to be fair. The number of times it clicks with him as #10 can be counted on one hand. Still a very good player, but needs to find his game.

Part of the reason Rooney was unhappy was that he was suffering for goals. This year he is getting best of both worlds. Goals and creativity. Said it on the last thread as well. Robin and Rooney are our best pair up top. It is up to the other lads to prove they deserve a place, right now playing for 2nd team honors.

Anyone see Buttner on the team next year? Can't imagine why Fabio's is not getting a game.

Kagawa looked out of sorts tonight. Many bang on about "number 10" but he hasn't made any significant impact consistently since he joined the club in any position.. Needs to step his game up, adnan is out-performing him, the lad was united's sharpest tonight in another average perfomance. Januzaj will hopefully be top.class, developing well.

Yet again, buttner shows how awful a defender he is and looks ponderous going forward. Not a manchester united quality player, fabio should slot in.

United as a whole look lethargic and ponderous. Giving so many space and gaps in dangerous areas, the central.mid issue was highlighted even more, need to dip.into the transfer market and add quality, it is badly needed.

A much needed win - well done lads, top of the group too.

Supporters were excellent tonight as well, credit to themselves and the club.

Notice Benfica knocked ot tonight despite beating PSG - Garay and Matic anyone?

MC16 to tutor Jones @ Powell next 3 years, add a buy AJ as back up 10, he gets 30+ games a year. In 3 years he is the 10.

Ashley young has surely nailed his career to an end? He huffs and fucking puffs but he just hasn't got it. Admire the shift he puts in but I would rather jesse lingard or any new quality purchase was given a chance.

@Fletch - Yep, I like Shinji a lot but I don't see how he can fit in. At the moment we can play him on the left but for the worst reason.. our wingers aren't exactly in great form. He's definitely got the technique and the talent that boy, but it's just how we're going to fit him in that's the problem.

Rooney and RvP are turning into a wondeful pair on the pitch, we're missing their growing chemistry badly. The other major loss is Michael Carrick... has to be said.. look at all the space we've been giving away in front of defence without him.

Tonight as well... while Buttner had his moments and to be fair... Ashley was more unlucky than "bad"... Evra probably would have given us more on the left than those two lads combined.

I guess the saying "You don't know what you have until its gone" really applies here. Desperate for Carrick back and for the glazers and woodword to put their money where their mouth is and back Moyes in January and in the summer.

But tonight the person I feel best for is David Moyes. I don't care if some people don't like him here... the chances we missed against Everton,. Newcastle and Cardiff would have been the complete difference for him in terms of pressure... he accepted all responsibility regardless as he should, not hiding behind any excuse or anyone, so I'm happy he can put the champions league to the back of his mind now until February. :-)
