@FletchTHEMAN

Okay lets look at the Gibson example in more detail.

He played 15 games in the league last season.
He played 3 times in the league cup.
He played 4 times in the Champions League.

In terms of experience, those three league cup appearances aren't going to have too big an impact by comparison.

If we are talking about physical fitness, it is irrelevant, players train all the time and don't even need to play to be fit.

If we are talking about match fitness, meaning getting a consistent run of form going, then this game is also irrelevant, as reserve team games are every week and present better opposition than Scunthorpe.

How the hell did you know what number to key in ? I've had sopcast for weeks and always struggle to get the game I want I thought there would be an idiot guide.Is there? and if so how do I get to it.

@Jonny - obviously they don't if such a squad with experienced players is only winning 2-1. These matches keep confidence up, give great match fitness run-outs and are ideal for players like Owen and Chicha who aren't getting too many games due to the pressure of performance needed with Berba going so well.

Jonny, We NEVER play the Reserve league games at Wembley and they aren't counted as a senior trophy. CC is very different from a reserve game. Early doors, we will get games with Scunthorp etc., but the Arse played Totty yesterday and both teams used their fringe players for that. That was a decent game for 90 minutes. Also, Reserve games are not likely to see the types of challenges that Scunthorpe is dishing out because nobody cares about a reserve game. Believe you me, Scunny lads care a great deal about this game. This game may define many of their lives. At the end of this game, Chicho will know what british football is all about, and that is a fact. On the rest, we can agree to disagree. Cheers mate.

@Always Be Closing
The problem with Owen and Hernandez is that we have too many strikers, not that there aren't enough opportunities.

Owen will be gone by this time next year I think.

@Jonny - I don't dispute that, Owen won't be here that long but having that cover is invaluable in the bigger games. Chicha will come gold, he needs to settle and see what footie here is about.

That's a good point but by the time we get to the semi final and final stages of both cups, it will be a first team line up. Younger players won't get much of a look in and the first team will have another 3-4 games to worry about.

PARRRRRRK! OK this is going to get ridiculous. Park is great example. Cracking player. Love to see him do well. Often needed in the early-mid games of the Champions League, rather have him out their getting the hard challenges than many others. Guys like him, PIG, Brown, they will be in the CC final. They will play every game.

@redecilsadvocate.
Owen is finished as NO 1 STRIKER...only be used as a backup now and he knows it.... he willl score against teams like tonights lot but will always struggle against top teams.

Despite being 4-1 down, I have to give some props to the excellent scunth crowd. Definitely something Utd. fans could appreciate and sometimes learn form.

Owen will be gone by next year. Chicho has to be given atleast 6 months to bed in and Kiko will come good as well.

I think Gibbo has played really well tonight, but Ando still looks off the pace. Why are people surprised about our fans? Best in the land.

TonyBee, Agree about Owen. But Owen is this years Henrik Larsen. Came in for only 13 games, but everyone agrees he was a key man for the runin. Owen will get chances and will play a role. Will move on probably. Hope he leaves on a high personally. He is a cracking talent, just a bit to short and lagging on the long runs. Just a bit too brittle as well.

@Jonny, you need to quit this mentality of underestimating teams, if we had put out a full reserve against scunthorpe tonight without experience , we'd have got battered, you clearly don't take this competition and the teams in it serious but its a good competition to bring youth players through and give games to fringe players .

Owen was never going to be a starter at united, his all round game leaves alot to be desired, he can poach goals but wont offer much else, we can't afford to carry passengers in big games.

Playing well tonight though but his contract won't be increased except if he wants to warm a bench for a while.

We are winning 5-1, it could end up 6 or 7.

@Jonny, we've had our fair share of shocks in cup competitions, yeah it was comfortable in the end but it wasn't all smooth sailing, the positives for this games is that some of our players are working there way back from injury.

The likes of obertan, anderson got important minutes on the pitch, we need anderson back especially, obertan would put some pressure on nani, bebe will too.

smalling played well, rio got minutes, so did owen e.t.c, all in all a positive night, we need to start keep clean sheets though.

i think its unfair to label wen "finished" or "past it" when he cant get a decent run of games, even the best players in the world cant be expected to just come in after no football for weeks and set the world alight can hey? 'm happy Mickey got his 2 goals 2night, it may only be scunthorpe but it'll certainly help his confidence. Oh and good to see Bebe, I think he did ok, good result tonight

Ive seen a lot worse debuts... For a homelss man Bebe didnt look out of place out there. I understand it was against scunthorpe in the CC, but still he exceeded my admittedly low expectations.

Haha.. You know what they say about great minds and how they think alike and all that.

Scousers are into extra time against Northampton Town, who incidentally are in the relegation zone of League Two. I love the League Cup!

I agree. Drogba talking about a quad in September says it all about the player and the Rent boys. I loved it cause it confirms how much they are getting carried away by the easy start to the season.

United is the only club who develops the best wingers, ronaldo, beckham, kanchelskis, ryan giggs nani, bebe, obertan, valencia we really epitomise the art of wing play.
