Wow, great moment! De Gea with the save to keep our momentum going into half time. The Shaw penalty happens to wing backs from time to time. Hopefully, it helps him stay sharp moving forward. GGMU!

Lost concentration at the final minute, we were doing a great job just keeping possession to see the half out...however, Shaw's tackle was clean, he went for the ball and got there first. DeGea has pulled a rabbit out of the hat with that Baines stop - Whew.

So far so good then.

Excellent De Gea.... was thinking to myself "oh fucking great, dominated first half and we'll go in level"... then he saves a peno and keeps our advantage for the second half. Fantastic work!!! The roar at Old Trafford was immense.

But ye, a lot of work still to do, but I was impressed with that first half, plenty of chances and so on. We need to keep that up for the second, keep on top, a 1 goal lead isn't enough! :-)

Minus that shocking loss of concentration in the final minute of the first half. The defending's not been too bad. Mcnair's been very very good for his age. Rojo has to be more careful with the ball at the back. One or two loose touches, square passes with no awareness.

Shaw will learn as he goes along and Rojo will learn as well no biggie. Still 1-0. Now we have to go on and put this away hopefully.

All the commentators saying clear penalty and that's with the benefit of replays I'm baffled.
Hope the front 2 play more of in part in the second.Come on u Reds.

Solid and controlled first half, except for the penalty where Shaw fell asleep for a second.

We need that second goal. Somehow I feel Falcao is trying too hard, but understandably he wants to get going. He is getting half chances, just need one good one to fall his way.

And McNair, apart from the one time Lukaku got away, had him in his pocket all game. Good showing from the youngster

Are commentators blind at bt sports. Steve mcmanaman pisses me off with his bias comments. Great half apart from lapses in last mins. Come lads bag 3 points.

Felt that coming our set piece defending is dodgy and Surley you'd think one of RVP and Falcao can score can't they?

Why did Falcao have to be taken off?
Trafford_Lord October 5, 2014
Apparently there is an obsession to take Falcao off...is there a 90minute bonus attached to his contract that we are trying to evade? I can't make sense of this...neither RVP or Wilson can hold the ball up or run at Toffee defence.

Magical save over the bar!!! De Gea has earned his keep today.

I am not having a groan but my goodness we really have to look at our substitution philosophy, why are RVP, Mata and Wilson on the field right now? and Valencia and Fletcher are on the bench? It boogles my mind at least.

De Gea u genius what a performance.Okay 3 in a row momentum is building but we have a long long long way to go.Next few fixtures all hard.Should have some players back if we don't lose any at the Internationals.
I just don't understand why we can't put games to bed that one should have been done and dusted but hey it's a win.

United never make it easy on the fans do they. Fuck me. My nerves were absolutely destroyed that last 10 minutes.

What more needs to be said about De Gea. Thank goodness we put our faith in him when the media wrote him off. Absolute gem of a game today.

We must learn to close out games better but this is a good sign. Winning games that we could have easily lost with some very vital players missing.

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!!!

Falcao seemed to me to be tiring, when the camera was on him u cud see the expression on his face that he was fighting through, remember that lad wasn't match fit when we got him and has only had the opportunity to play a hand full of games, match fitness it difficult. Delighted for the man to open his acct and for Di Maria for another goal and an assist.

David De Gea... could have rescued us a MASSIVE three points today!

@Mark Reid Great win, but I agree that we need to continue to improve as far as maintaining our attacking aggression or putting the game to bed. We are doing either and I don't want that to be come a part of the team psyche. I do agree that it's disappointing to see Falcao go, but I truly think it's a fitness issue. He just didn't look that fresh near the end.....granted neither did Van Persie, but Falcao is coming of a rather serious injury.

I think what I thoroughly enjoyed about today's game is until Shaw went off we didn't look vulnerable at all. Sure it was a stupid goal to give away, needless free kick and bad defending, Everton caught us off guard, but other than that we kept chasing them down when they had the ball and we kept the ball better than any game so far this season. We are definitely improving... van Gaal saying it would take around 3 months seems to be about spot on at the moment.

what an incredible day for united fans.

de gea puts in one of the best goalkeeping performances i have seen in the premier league in years.
falcao gets off the mark
loads of youngsters from the academy
mc nair looked composed
valencia, i thought would be 'adequate' .. but wow he really impressed me today
di maria ran the show again
blind, composed and quietly brilliant
rafael really getting consistent now
a bit of momentum with the team

and possibly most importantly .. carrick, jones, evans, smalling, lingard all back after the international break!

shaw is a worry, but at least he wont be in the u-21's now and i dont think it will be too serious. maybe sit out of west brom away

A very gritty win and thanks to De Gea who was in God mode. Nice to see Falcao opening his account. Valencia seemed good today as did almost all other players.

RVP seems to have caught the captain's bug though. Shud have been him who was subbed instead of Falcao. We need to attack more and convert the chances. Could have been out of sight before Everton had a sniff.

Very nervy final 15 minutes which was not needed if we had converted the chances.

We are getting into the groove nicely. Now need to get those wins to be as comfortable as possible. Hope there are no more injuries in the Int. Break. Already on the fringes of the squad, can't take any more absence.

marko - If we didnt lose 5:3 we would be great in the table…

spot on. still alot of points to be dropped by the teams above us this season

i feel confident we will get atleast 3rd. no important mid week games whilst those above us have to travel all across europe and then come back and try to ground out a win. we could see a surprise premier league win this season

im going (with current standings and squad)

chelsea
united
city
arsenal

Dan, you are very optimistic...
I'm a bit torn. I'm rooting for Chelsea and City to defeat those around us, and pull away, then we can stay ahead of the rest of the pack.

@big vex
Totally agree mate..in my eyes Rafa has been the best player in the past 2 games and was also the best against Leicester until that absurdly rediculous decision. Was also impressed with Shaw (I don't think it was a penalty) and with Valencia too.

DDG tho! Unbelievable! World class keeper! Only keeper definitely better is neur. The rest you could argue degea is better. Only keeper who comes close to him in the PL is courtois. Those scousers should know this..as G Neville said: the top class keepers make those vital match winning saves..something mignolet couldn't. You could argue the shot migmolet faced was slightly closer to the corner but the one ddg saved was closer range and he had bodies in front blocking his view. 3 world class saves today to win us 3 points.

On the negative side tho..I was disappointed with mata today. But to be honest I wasn't expecting much. He only plays well when he has strikers or wingers running in behind which our team isn't likely to do looking at our strikers and the fact that we play without wingers. I don't know if anybody knows but I did say we should have played januzaj. Against Chelsea tho I would keep Valencia and play Herrera behind the strikers.

All in all..let's leave the complaining for when we lose. Great result. Great keeping. On to west from.

@marko I was thinking about that 5-3 travesty too. Didn't want to whine about dropping the 3 points, but not even a point from a draw there could be critical at the end of the year. If we get some players healthy and grind out some results we could be doing pretty well this year. I still blame the ref more than our players for that loss. Kudos to Degea today- immense

Have to agree Mata off the boil a little today I think he will most likely be given the door and we will use the cash to get a Vidal or Stoorman shame really he's got gobs of talent but doesn't seem to fit in.

@United 24, i dont believe in 3rd place, but 4th is more than realistic. LVG is better than Rodgers and he can fit this team in one, faster than Rodgers. Liverpool, is not issue any more. They have to manny players and they need more time to fit in.
@unitedyankee, agree, but Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal...they also play bad, so i think we can beat them for 4th place. If Arsenal lose today, here we are :)

Mata has loads of talent but I think it's sad to see him struggle. Today it became clear that Rooney is better player than mata. I think LVG may be tempted to play januzaj. I fear for his development. But he should be patient.

All in all pretty satisfied with our performance. We are improving and the best part is after a long time we are playing as a team.

Falcao is still building his fitness after that bad knee injury. He may look and feel like he can play the full 90 minutes but its that last 10-15 minutes when he's starting to tire that he's most susceptible to injury again. He's getting a extra 5-10 minutes every game and it won't be long before he's regularly playing 90+ minutes.

We have had many misfortunes turn into blessings for us, this year,
The poor start....led to the heavy outlay on great talent.
The injuries to our 3 "senior" central defenders has led us to abandon the 3 back experiment, and here is to hoping we never return to it again!
We are making all our mistakes early( Leicester defeat, Rooney red etc)
Now, no complacency! We will play each opponent/each game for 90 strong minutes!!!
