so now tell me, who is the best of them and don't try to say that statistic proves nothing

THESE STATS, are not only goals and assists,

these are CRUCIAL CRUCIAL STATS, that affect the game from the midfield standing point

Schneiderlin and Bastian have been our better midfielders of them.

NOW if you argue that those stats dont matterm the nI WONT take you seriously anymore, sorry.

these are stats that affect the game. it's not in my favour, as you can see, Fellaini has also done quite well even if I dislike him

https://www.whoscored.com/Players/2115, here’s where I got my stats, go check it out. I took the ones which are important. I did not handpic so that BAstian looked better, btw his other stats were very good too compared to others

I took all the important stats. that affect the game.

It takes too much time to get all competitions so here is for the PL.
Midfielders, the average in PL:

Bastian APPS 13(4):
Clearances per game 0.8, Interceptions per game 1.4, Fouls per game 1.1 Blocks 0.2, TAckles 2
Goals 1, Assists 0, Pass success percentage 86%, Aerials won 0.9, Key passes per game 0.5,
MOTM 0 times

Carrick 12(5):
Clearances per game 0.6, Interceptions per game1.4, Fouls per game 0.3, Blocks 0.1, Tackles 1.5
Goals 0 Assists 0, Pass success percentage 87.8%, Aerials won 0.5, KeyPAssesPerGame 0.4
MOTM: 0 times

So this fight wins Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Herrera 12(5):
Clearances per game 0.5, Interceptions per game 0.8, Fouls per game 0.9, Blocks 0.2, Tackles 1.8
Goals 2 assists 2, Pass success percentage 85.6%, Aerials won 0.2, KeyPAssesPerGame 0.8
MOTM: 1 time

Once again Bastian has better stats.

Schneiderlin 16(1):
Clearances per game 1.7, Interceptions per game 2.6, Fouls per game 2.3, Blocks 0.2, Tackles 2.9
Goals 1 assists 0, Pass success percentage 90%, Aerials won 0.8, KeyPAssesPerGame 0.4
MOTM 0 times

When you look at Schneiderlinds work, you can admire that he’s been our most consistent and best with all the important stats. that affect the game

Fellaini 9(5):
Clearances per game 1.1, Interceptions per game 0.5, Fouls per game 1.8, Blocks 0.1, Tackles 0.9
Goals 1 assists 0, Pass success percentage 83.4, Aerials won 2.4, KeyPAssesPerGame 0.6
MOTM 0 times

Theres no point comparing Carrick & Schweini, they are very different type of players. Schweini moves with the ball forward, Carrick passes it forward at pace. The only thing you can say right now is Carrick's game is more suitable for us and his passes can change the pace of the game in an instant

for me Im happy ythat we have both, honestly inever liekd carrick but the las t5 years has made me love him

Bastian is Bastian, in hist first 10 games almost every game a standout, watch fulltimedevils in youtube and you see how the locals were praising him after every game

@marq and honest question,arent those stats important and affect the game?

also it's liek saying whatever chicharito score 23 goals in leverkusen, it does not matter, I want to see him play, well next time if stats dont matter dont bring him up.

sme question about youth and youngsters, take the ifs and buts off,

haven't we gotten a young squad? how fickle people can be.

@nairobi - pellegrini would be a ballsy, psychological move.

imagine if pep struggles, and they let their proven manager go to their rivals...

Nope, stats doesn't show everything. Our play has always been significantly better when Carrick is playing. I used the word suitable, not better. Vardy has tons of goals, but is he better than Aguero? Nope

A months supply of shots in the first 25 minutes!

@marq

Theb we habe to disagree, because if for you interceptions key passes clearences etc does not count and affect the game then i dont know what

Also that comparison is wrong brcause they are close on scorign this season and if we apply that method well 9/10 not United supporters would say Bastian is without a doubt the better player, heck no need to go further, he is s better player always been, his past tells us that and his recent performances also when looking at stats ALSO you cant deny that the lad did exelent job at the beginning + he's new to this league right?

Also of course certain stats count, its stupid. For example people rave about shots, and chicharito scoring and us losing on goal difference and us not scoring enought.

So if not goal and assist stats count and then interceptions neither, then what counts? The movement alone? But yeah it's complicated

The stats clearly shows, and those are important stats + people from the OT stands can confirm you on how dominant bastian been earlier this season + this was honestly carricks best hame this season. Not been THAT carrick this season

Hopefuööy we het them both going

FORGOT TO ADD

the point was not who is the better one, although everypne knows whos the better, the point was

Who has done better this season, and you clearly can see why when bastian is fit, he plays.

Also isn't it stupid @marq to come here and when carrick has a great game, instead of being happy of having bastian, you come here and bash him, by you i mean a certain man whom i proved wrong

Great game, solid result, and a much needed confidence boost with the two first half goals and a proper performance in a league game!

I missed the game but caught the highlights and bloody hell, the feel good factor when United plays this way is unbelievable. Hopefully we build on this.

Some interesting observations though. We actually had less possession than Stoke! But we seemed to pass with more purpose and verve. Is LVG finally loosening up?!

@ Nefarious, I don't get your observation on a 433. I thought Mata was playing as a number 10.

Since you took your stats from Whoscored, its definition of key pass is

Key Pass
- The final pass leading to a shot at goal from a teammate

Carrick will never get a key pass as often, because his passes is often the one that goes to a player that will make a key pass. Hence, that stat is very misleading. And you should look up youtube for Neville's assessment of Carrick, and you will see movement alone can do tons of things

@marq and?

It is not misleading cause all we praise carrick is for his passes. listen mate im not saying carrick is bad listen carefully

I am saying, bastian has done very well for us and started very brightly, and this stupid mug comes here and bashes him and wants bastian sold. Imagine that.

Ok so take that stat off, thos other stats are not misleading.

Also the vardy aguero comparison- even if bastian (all pur expectations eere higher and he can do better, but hes not done bad like this mug makes it to be, and stats proves it)

Bastian is better than carrick has always been and one season from his standards great, does not change that fact.

Anyway. when someone says sell shcweinsteiger but says nothing about fellaini and instead of being happy on having great midfielders he's 31 after all, not old, carrick got better by time, and bastian has always been great, how the f you want him sold??!? mug

peace

Also Bastian is not the one who should make key passes but he still managed to make 0.8 per game on average, after all in all his 17 games hes barely been the #10, hes played little higher yes but still his job has not been to give key passes but exactly what we see feom carrick

A pass to ehomever is the #10, but he still managed to do the key passes

Bt yeah, i'll leave it here, both are United players and both are amazong players!!

Great to habe them both, one is 34 one is 31, one will soon retire and one has years to give.

Great having a debate on these players, remember the days of anderson and cleverley? Yea exactöy

Mata vs Stoke City

WITHOUT THE BALL : Mata was absolutely in the midfield three with Fellaini parallel to the right and Carrick anchoring behind. It turns out a midfielder doesn't have to be fast or physical when there are three of them positioned tightly.

WITH THE BALL : Mata starts in the midfield three giving better passing and possession options but with a freedom to then roam wide and break into the box.

Van Gaal used Mata tactically brilliantly using his strengths in possession and hiding his weakness defensively. The weakness being his lack of pace and inability to track opposition attacking fullbacks.

Yusuf only raises an argument he cannot debate and he runs off.

The way the team played yesterday even blind would be a beast in the midfield.

Everyone raised their game. Lots of unbelievable running shoes from Rooney, martial, lingard. Giving the midfielders lots of spaces to give direct passes. Schweinsteiger would have been a beast in this game.

No body actually mentioned that we all weren't sure of the midfield pairing befor the game began.

Oh what a game.

cantona,

I don't think LVG will be here in September .

Can actually get to the match this Sunday as I'm in London , hope we beat the chavs as I don't like them .

The Arsenal fans have gone very quiet this last two weeks, thought they were already champions which will please Ash

i get a sense that whilst fergie time defined fergies reign, 9 lives will define louis'. I prob speak for everyone when i say I'm surprised he's still in a job. But if yesterday continues for rest of season, then why fix what isn't broken?

gonna be interesting to see what effect the pep announcement will have on rest of city's season.

I think the only way LVG can survive to next season is to finish in the top 4, plus the board definitely don't want Mourinho, and the other top targets like Pochettino and Simone are not available. If Giggs is a choice, he would be in the job by now

Israel,
You really need to grow up.

Weareunitedd,

As much as I despise the kind of football Fellaini brings, I appreciate that the Belgian waffle has his uses.
Bastien is underperforming, is overpaid and we can do just as well without him. I don't feel lucky or honoured to have him as he's way past his best. I don't see the use in having Carrick, Schneiderlin, Blind and Schweinsteiger in the squad.
My midfield preference is actually Schneiderlin and Herrera. Anyways Like I said.... Great result, great performance. We can agree to disagree on everything else.

felli's made a lot of key interceptions in defence. he's awkward, but doesn't get enough credit sometimes.

cantonafc,

Fellaini brings us something different if things aren't going well, so I would keep him, if just for that

ifeanyiumeweni February 3, 2016
Yea Cantona Fella never gets credit for that, these last two games it seems he has been told to calm down and just do the basics as he's difficult to collect the ball from and he looked decent.

Lingard although not the most skillful player works harder than januzaj and Memphis arguably has better end product than Valencia and Young and always finds himself in goal scoring positions so it's going to be difficult to bench him. I see him like Pedro at Barca not fantastic but effective. Mata should have scored a couple last night.

Yusuf

Well I must have used a similar sentence to you.

You claim a player is underperforming then you don't have an evidence to back that up.

Basti is underperforming based on his standard.

But comparing him to the rest he is the best. He has nothing to prove to you or anyone. His track record and his current stats proves that. Not scintillating but better than what carrick is offering in all ramifications. So you grow up.

WeAreUnitedd February 3, 2016
@yusuf the first one, cmon so now fellaini is useful, the lad had his first good game and the whole team performed and he was not the best one, but gave a decent run. sell him next season, does not belong to this club say what you say

in the other hand, similar things @israel were said about carrick and even pirlo before pirlo moving to juventus where he discovered himsefl

and by his standards he's not performing well but when you look the important stats, and I put a lot of them not just one, he has done very well, and I will repeat once again, go watch Fulltimedevils on youtube and the first games (first 10-15, and you'll see how much praise bastian got)

+ we all have seen him perform this season better than carrick, this was carricks first very good game AND Im glad for it, because we need him, and we all know that people said that we need carrick back into his form.

remember that both have played on those dire boring games, so yeah same role or not, both have underperformed, put bastian in yesterdays game, and you would have seen him do the same if not better

why? because he's used to that kind of football with bayern and germany, fast football where players in fron of him moves around.

anyway, glad that Carrick is back at his best and back from injury and hopefully bastian comes back stronger, we need that lift! but to say sell bastian and let fellaini stay, well makes you look without knowledge.

@trevor

he got some minutes and looked much better and lighter, but nothig spectacular, 10-15minutes 3-0, we slowed the game down so that's it for him.

Weareunited I don't get this Bastian vs Carrick argument as both of them play different roles. Carrick is a better holding midfielder whereas Bastian is a better all round midfielder. Just like Rvp is a better striker but Rooney is a better forward.
  • Log in to Reply
WeAreUnitedd February 3, 2016
it's not even an argument, never was, it's exactly as you say

but the lad yusuf cam here and said he would sell bastian and the nafter carricks first great game of the season he comes here and obviously bashes bastian and sneakily tries to get with me

who in their mind would say sell bastian keep fellaini. just as when we have midfielders, hewants to sell oen of the best of the games. carrick is soon 35 and retires but he still insists on selling bastian at the age of 31 when we bought him, imagine his experience etc

anyway. stupid "argument"
