Gary - the question you have to ask is this... Fellaini at the peak of his career.. Is he prepared to not be a significant part of the squad.. Is he prepared to just be the "another option" guy who isn't at the level of the more talented players? I'm not sure he will want to hang around for that and I personally would prefer a quality younger player who has the potential getting more game time. I totally agree with you that sometimes you do need a different option, a different tactical method to bring on but I doubt fellaini would want to to do that, at this stage of his career and like I said, I would rather have a player with the capability to reach an higher level than to see a standard one. It's a matter of choice.

Again you are right, he didn't play central.mid when he came on and I don't think he has the attributes to cut it in that position consistently at the highest.level.. He is better as a nuisance operator in that position he scored from.. He plays the number 10 position as more of a bruiser than a class act.. Issue is, he will never get ahead of the players in front of him.. He also isn't a great central.midfielder.. It is pure dilemma that will hinge on his own career.

Tommy - I gave fellaini credit for his goal and decent performance, although that hasn't changed views on him.

whole lot of doom and gloom on here today. yeah we dropped two points but for the first time since the Fergie era I saw that fight at the end of the game Manchester United is famous for. LVG should have started with the diamond formation and I definitely question bringing on Ashley Young at the end but all in all things could have been much worse.

Marko - januzsjs performance was worse than any Ashley youngs performances since hrs been here but of course it'll all be put down to youth, I couldnt.give s shit.if he was 19, 12, or 102, he's playing for Manchester United and he was abysmal, we have spent 150million and we can't win away from home,.pathetic, we are as bad under Louis as we were under David, don't let peoples hatred of the British cloud you're judgement

LVG needs to stop accommodating forwards and more ruthless.

The heart was ripped out out of United when SAF left ... Still missing. LVG too pedestrian for my liking thus far. Falcao needs 90 Mins next 3 games.

Only player performing ... Di Maria... Everyone else regressing.

Afraid this is the only point we'll register for a while.

Defending laughable. Unless we get a vidic like leader at the back forget top 4.

@tommy, agree but i have to say something. Some croatian players at his age play much better roles in their clubs :) hihihi so maybe we should look at croatia for some talents. Kidding

It is frustrating when you spent 150 millions and you can t win West Ham, no matter of their position on the table. We look so unabalanced, but on the other hand, our biggest rivals from Liverpool also spent more than 100 milions and they play like shit...and dont get it why Falcao is not a starter.

I thought blind played well in a position he is told to single handedly hold the forte. He broke up play efficiently, his reading of the game was good, his pasing knitted things together and he scored a composed goal. United need someone alongside him.. Perhaps michael carrick at some point.

Herrera wasn't fit but he tried to make things happen.. I don't think he gets bullied, he has a small frame but he makes up for it with great work ethic and aggression.. He is also good technically.. I imagine he wil improve vs chelsea, a tough game.

I thought januzaj played well towards the end of the 2nd half.. He hasn't started for months but he tried to carve things open.. He whipped in some good crosses but he needs more game time to rebuild his confidence.. I would drop mata and play him instead.. He has the physical size and technique.. Matic would bully mata if he plays.

Van persie on other hand was really poor.. He should have got two goals at least but he looks a lot slower and less sharp.. He is stagnating the attack... Better to play falcao up top.

Shaw was decent but still needs to work on his defending and sharpness.. He will get a tough test vs chelsea.

Rafael was okay in the game.. I don't think any significant attack came from his side.. He's clearly improved with regular game time. Jones clearly was at fault for the goal.

Samuel - you said lvg would have no.place for him, he'd be the first shipped off etc, he's way above Fletcher and Anderson in the pecking order, I'd be surprised if he never played against Chelsea, Gary Neville hit the nail on the head when he said Chelsea have 4 or 5 players that are 6ft 4, and they're not just 6 ft 4 but their brilliant in the air,the team will be de gea, rafeal, Jones, rojo, Shaw, blind, Herrera, fellaini, Di Maria, falcao, rvp. Mata will be the one to drop out I reckon

Ashley young cost united nearly 20million pounds.. Has not once in his entire career showcased an ability worthy of that pricetag or even shown any ability to deserve a place at united. Januzaj was not brilliant but.he certainly did not stoop to the level of an ashley young... A player in his 4th year as an experienced footballer and has yet to deliver one decent performance. Januzaj played well towards the end and tried to make things happen.. He has quality and I would bet on him improving..

Samuel - can't agree with a lot of youre points mate, blind scored a good goal that I agree with, but a blind msn (no pun intended) could play his role, get it and give it, and he got caught in possession loads of time, come on mate I.know you said you'd like januzaj to play this one but he was abysmal, his crossing got worse as the game got on. So the defence plays the offside trap all except rafeal and it wasn't his fault? He was pathetic foe the goal, aeful, 1 average pass spilt.open our defence, fuckin hell we should sign Titus brambell, he'd be an improvement

Tommy - wasn't he heading towards an exit? With benitez at napoli sniffing... He clearly does not fit the requirements of the highest level and if he did, he would be a regular within the side now. Comparing him to fletch and anderson.isn't a credit on him at all.. He needs to aspire to be on the same ground as top class midfielders in the league. Look.. I've no.issues with having a different tactical approach to the game when needed but you can't play fellaini because he can match chelsea's 6ft 4 players... He played yaya toure at the etihad, a player of similar size and got out-played.. It's all about quality but if the physical part is a bonus then it is welcome.

The only reason we had to get rid of Moyes was his inablity to attract players..I dont think he could do worse than what LVG is doing with this squad..Lets remember that LVG with all his genius could not get the best out of those average players, same with Moyes. I dont get why LVG is being applauded for playin attackin football..He still couldnt get Cleverley to play attacking football...and please..can we please know what the philosophy is now?..Southampton sold almost half their best players and their new signings have hit the ground running.why is LVG being let off the hook?..Koeman said when he took over the first thing he worked on was the defense..It sickens me that our so called first choice center backs are actually the worst.so we shouldnt really be complainin about them being injured.they are better of injured because they are the reason our defense is being called horrible..mcnair looks a more composed defender than jones and smalling rolled into one..How is that LVG says they have to defend as a unit and yet we see the same mistakes over and over again..cant he just get up his seat for once and organise the players..we dont have a leader on the pitch so its his duty to shout at the players when they are messin up..moyes had to deal with 3 competitions with the average squad LVG got rid of and yet we are one point better than last time having already played city, chelsea and tottenham..west brom had 2 chances amd got 2 goals..what will happen when the better teams get 6 or 7 chances and we have RVP the teachers pet who keeps misfiring?..we wait to see..Not sayin we shouldnt have sacked Moyes..but LVG is running out of excuses..If Southampton have managed to play well even after losing so many players we dont really have much of an excuse do we?

Samuel - did you not see lvg after the game he Saud I think fellainis a very good player and.in this league you need physical players, to dismiss needing tall players against a tall team is ridiculous, even fergie dropped Gary Neville for one game to put s taller lad in, I remember against Bolton Evans got send off, berba came straight on immediately simply for his height,he'll play im certain of it

Tommy - blind was asked to be the sole defensive shield and of course if he does make an error, which is possible, united would be carved open.. That blame lies on van gaal.more so than blind. Yes he takes it and gives it but he also reads the game, cuts out danger, passes with a purpose.. Blind was efficient and did his job.. Never going to be spectacular and he really doesn't have to.be but you have to question why van gaal hasn't got another central.mid supporting him.. Maybe carrick or herrera can do it.

Look, januzaj wasn't brillant but I don't think.he dropped to the level of abysmal.. he tried to make things happen, albeit some of it not coming off.. Towards the end, he played a part in trying to carve out the winner. I give him benefit of the doubt because I know he has quality.. He was better than mata at least and should be ahead of him.

They were not playing.offside.. Jones was clearly cut in no-man's land. He charged into there trying to win the ball, left gaps behind and was done by clever passes. Rafael and rojo were in their rightful position, if anything, you could blame jones for poor communication with other defenders despite being referred to as a "leader".. He has massive improvements to make, manchester united cannot afford to wait for someone to improve let alone even stay fit.. United have to.hit the top four this season.

Frist step, is RVP out, Falcao in. Man, you are in United, and you have to deliver, no matter what. If you dont, have a nice day at the bench.
We have a problem that almost all of our strikers are at thier peak, or peak is behind them. We need fresh blood. Why Wilson is not getting chances? This striker from West Ham, we should buy him. Also, if Wilson ain gonna play, then we need to loan him, lad need games.

Samuel - fair points about blind, he wasn't the worst player on tne pitch by a long way, Mata won't be here next year unless lvg is gone, im sorry but if this was moyes, he'd be getting.g called useless cunt etc, moyes was winning against the middle of tne raid sides more often than not, we've played 2 if the newly promoted sides including the woeful Burnley, Sunderland who just lost be 8 and West brom away and have 0 wins thats embaressing

i believe we have a world class striker in falcao and he needs to be used properly and not off the bench or to others strengths (rvp). we need to utilize him in the right way and make sure he is our number 1 goalscorer...and then watch him pounce.

every game hes played, hes made a positive influence (played 3 starts and 2 off the bench) in his 3 starts he got a goal and 2 assists and was arguably our most threatening forward. in the sub games he came on and frightened the life out of defenders with his hold up play (today is the best example) ...he had 3-4 players on him at once.

once we do this, and once we start having a stable starting 11 and back 4 (which is dreadful atm) then we will be okay.

i am also disappointed in evans,as after years of playin beside rio n vida, doesnt look like hes improved at all. Jones has been piss poor for 2 years now,and to think that we couldve got varane instead...lol

When teams play against the likes of City and Chelsea these days they say in the tunnel fuck this lots going to be hard to beat so already they're psyched out, like they used to be against us.Now it's yea I'll have a go we can beat them,we don't have anyone ala Keane to motivate us on the pitch and the managers too busy doodling in his book. For all of his technical nuance he still hasn't come up with a proper plan .This may take the 3 years of his contract to fiix it's not going to happen in one season.

I honestly can't believe people giving phil jones such a hard time. Lets put it in perspective, he is 22 years old, playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and playing with a new central defensive partner, who is new to the premier league. of course it will take them time to gel and become an effective partnership. He is also expected to step up and be the defensive leader of the team. again it will take time and he needs an injury free run. I think we can take positives from our recent performances, we are showing fight until the end, which was missing last year, and on another night West brom could have been battered. I still believe we are not as far away as people think, if any man can upset the favourites on Sunday it will be van gaal (holland vs Spain). We are due a big performance from this team, and hopefully Sunday can be that day.

Denis,

Whilst I agree, this was West Brom against one of the most expensive premier league sides assembled .

I cannot believe a title wining side can end up like this after having over £200m spent on it !, and for what?

Di Maria looks class, but the rest don't ( i'll exclude Falcao as he hasn't been played properly yet, and yet Van Perise gets the nod)).

Sandie Shaw would be of more use than Luke . It ts becoming increasingly obvious why Maureen got shot of Mata, perhaps we can swap him for a defender in the new year .

We don't seem to have any backbone or the slightest clue how to defend .

Out of the next four games, three are against the chavs, city, and Arsenal. They must be quaking in their boots ! God knows what the likes of Augero and Costa would do against this lot.

That is the so called "easy" start to the season out of the way, Now is the time to step up to the plate, no more excuses .

Cannot say i'm over confident !

Even though the results aren't always going out way I think it's clear we've improved since last season. We lose points mostly because of defensive mistakes and lacking a CD a CM. Also I don't know why we (other teams too) persist on playing players who are semi-injured all the time: Herrera had a shocker.

Maybe Fellaini should start against Chelsea. He offer a bit more defensively than our other nr 10's and can also win us balls in the air.

Get Garay in January!

gotta say i really enjoyed the match. putting the result aside, this is the best we have played all season. the team seems to improve with every game but the balance is just not right. a similar performance with a little improvement in defence and we might just beat chelsea.

I saw the players press for the ball harder than i have seen in the last six years. which tells me the players are beginning to understand what total football is all about. even marouane fellaini pressed the ball when he came on and also played with more aggression and assurance, that was a refreshing change.

rojo really impressed me, his tackles were inch perfect and i loved the way he kept bruising any westbrom player that came close to him. for some weird reason i enjoyed it maybe because we were trailing so early in the game.

van persie should be dropped, even if will keane is the only alternative on the bench. i dont get why falcao played only twenty minutes last night, strikers are confidence players and as soon as they start feeling isolated, their confidence suffers. van gaal should be very careful with that player.
if any decision will make united fans turn against him, it would be favouring a 31 year old van persie ahead of a hungry falcao.

i just hope the players realize they were terrific last night and not let their heads drop. they left everything on the pitch which is all i can ask for. on a better day it would have been 0-2.

kingshadieofafrica .

I also enjoyed the match, apart from the result . How can you say "This is the best we've played this season"?

We were abysmal in the first half, and the defensive errors for both goals were school boy stuff

Van Persie and Mata were non existent. We did improve in the second half, but let's be brutal, this is West Brom ( no disrespect intended), we should be putting teams like this to the sword, especially after injecting the side with £200m of "talent"

The players were far from "terrific"

I agree with you about Falcao. over Van Persie though

Kingshadieofafica - I know we've been crap so far but were we really that good? If rojo impressed you then we've got problems, he was one of the worst players on the pitch. Abysmal showing once again last night.

Rojo - utter garbage.
Van Persie - bar his post hitting volley utterly anonymous and lethargic once again. Needs dropping
Rafael - utterly inept defensively.
Mata - I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt now for ages as he seems a really decent lad but seriously, apart from a decent goal return, what does the lad provide in terms of our attacking, he is always on fringe and never seems to orchestrate anything. Contrasting this with what Silva does for City, a player of a similar frame and physique, sadly there is no comparison and Mourinho was bang on in letting him go.

I've knocked Fellaini over and over since joining us but at least last night he showed the desire and willingness to make something happen that everyone else bar Di Maria was incapable or unwilling to do. In terms of his use and care of the ball, I thought Blind had another tidy game.

Januzaj - the lad has become somewhat of a sacred cow, no one can say anything dismissive about him or expect the wrath of many on here. It seems to me that he has began to believe his own hype. That was an atrocious performance where nothing came off. He seems lethargic and swaggers around like he can't be bothered. He has regressed badly from the half a dozen or so decent performances that his overly exalted reputation has been built on.

Even with the likes of Di Maria There isn't a single team in this league that is wary or fearful of our club now, we have become an also ran.

On the back of last night and the season so far, I am very, very fearful for or next 2 fixtures. If we can escape a drubbing of 4 or 5 we'll have got off lightly. Let's not kid ourselves, things remain as bad as they ever were under Moyes.

I couldn't agree more.

We are so far behind the likes of city, and the chavs it is not true, and let's not mention the top European sides , and we cannot use money as an excuse.

LVG has come out with all the bollocks, let us see some action !

Chelsea and City will be our first real test, and we will start as huge underdogs !

Even Stevie Wonder would have a field day against us .

I hope in a couple of weeks or so, I am eating humble pie, but don;t hold your breath !

I dont understand how people are giving Rojo such a bad time. I think he was our best defender on the night. phil Jones positioning is poor as a CB and thats why he is forever having to track back and make last ditch tackles.he was clearly responsible for the second goal. there is no direct play in midfield imo, everything goes sideways and predictably di maria and janazaj were marked out of the game. Mata in my opinion looked like a 13 year old playing football with the big boys and got bullied off the ball more often than not ( maybe mourinho was right). Rvp a passanger in all the games thus far. Falcao should have started for sure!

trevor knightsmith:

i still stand by what i said, this is the best we have played all season, last night we pressed, passed, shot, tackled and won, and also created more chances than we have done in games all season.

we were far from abysmal in the first half in fact we were unlucky not to get a goal in the first half considering the rvp and di maria chance as well as the couple of great crosses from di maria that found no one. i honestly believe falcao would have buried atleast one of those crosses.

yes we made defensive errors but the defending i saw last night from united was good sometimes it was great (rojo). such mistakes disappear as soon as there is balance and consistency in the defence, lets not forget the jones-rojo partnership is just starting, all they have to do is stay fit and those two centerback spot will be theirs.
the way i see it west brom converted the only two chances they had in that game and that i believe is why the result is very frustrating.

agreed we should be putting teams like west brom to the sword and if we stick to our current path, we will be doing just that.
yesterdays scenario last season would have been a defeat, lets not forget that. we actually fought to the end.

"the defending i saw last night from united was good sometimes it was great"

We obviously watched different games then .

"If we stick to our current path"
.
We are only one point better off than last season. and we haven't played anyone of note yet .

" yesterdays scenario last season would have been a defeat" We won 0-3 there last season even with Moyes at the helm .

We did show a bit of fight I agree, but this is one of the most expensive premiership sides ever fielded . The money they're on, so they should so they should show a bit of fight.

Play like that against city and the chavs and we will be thumped, make no mistake about it !

Always making snide side comments hoping to incite people against Lvg, you are indeed pathetic. Pulling up stats to compare lvg and moyes after the lester city game, then showing up again with your band of narrow minded british morons trying to shift blame from jones to raphael.

I actually think it's not just Jones fault for the goal alltbiygh he had a big part of it, it's basic defending that rojo would cover for Jones when he moved forward, still if Jones had stayed problem resolved. I just states a fact if this was moyes you'd all be all over it, I'm not a David moyes fan, I'm not s Louis van gaal fan, I'm not s Phil Jones fan, I'm not a Daley blind fan, I'm a Manchester united fan, obe never had s name on the back of my shirt, why? I'm only a troll to the trolls fuckface and I was commenting on the fucking idiots abusing Jones calling him a headless chicken and way out of his depth, anyone who's played football know the defence plays as a line and everyone has to be paying attention and work as a unit id be surprised if Jones didn't give a call and out of the 4 defenders Rafa was the only one woefully offside. So people abusing Jones and blaming him 100 percent are just showing their ignorance, makes me laugh the biggest mouth pieces and experts on here are Yanks who don't know the first fucking thing
Listen you're just part of the Troll Muppet squad not Utd fans and come on here for a windup so go fuck yourself
