@ berbatunday, as Fergie said, we always seem to do certain things first. This is why we're the best team in the world. I feel so proud of the lads, they showed great determination and took chances well. Credit to Fergie for picking the right formation, no one can doubt his genious when it comes to football.

However I don't think any of the ABUs and journos will have much praise over this unexpected win; they'll be too busy writing up articles as to why 'Capello must take Owen to the WC', that's all they seem to care about at the mo. I struggle to think that any other team, ANY team, would have coped with 13 players out injured, a makeshift defence, muddy pitch, german atmosphere, playing away from home and loads of pressure piled on their shoulder's to do well in what ever role they slip into to. True professionalism.

Leeds will come to OT pumped up after scoring 4 against Kettering. They'll be full of arrogance and hope. Looking forward to see our kids shatter them.

@rooney the new king :

Probably mate. But i have stopped paying attention to those hypocrites a long time ago. When United lost the League in 2002 and they branded players like Scholes,Beckham,Giggs and Solskjaer as has beens.

I like it when UNited shut them up like this. By the way, was it Collymore who wrote us off because we would play with Carrick at the back?

@ Costas did they now (scholes at 27 and giggs at 28 solkjaer and beckham has beens). WOW that really has made me laugh that I did not know which shocks me, if players of that quality are over the hill at that age of 27 and 28, no wonder they have been ripping at united for the past 3 years.

@ because scholes and giggs are much older, and the likes of carrick and berbatov are not the media darlings because they dont do what their pinup heros gerrard lampard and terry.

King Eric - I agree it was a phenomenal performance that made me tremendously proud to be a supporter, but there is one other club in Europe that has a comparable depth, unified system and youth develpment program that could produce something similar: Barca. Recall how depleted their back 4 was in Rome.

@rooney the new king : At that season, Arsenal had won the double, playing some good football mind you. However, United gave away a lot of goals due to Stam's departure. But overnight, Arsenal players like Pires, Edu,Wiltord and Ljungberg became the greatest on the planet and the United lads apparently weren't good enough anymore. Funnily enough, the year later we won the title.

@jellybean

saw a question you asked a while back on another post about who i was referring to as kk (kuszczak) and what did he do that was embarassing. i'm sure you've seen his failed goal celebration by now, scott did a whole post about it! anyway, didn't want to be impolite and not respond.

@fze123/sprite

the media hates manchester united and ignores our success? i don't think that will change in our lifetime. might as well always expect the worst. i don't get how all these ex dippers get media jobs in the first place!

i've always wondered about the media bias too. this season its been disgusting really, we win againt the german champions, with massively depletd defence,2 homegrown players in gibson and wellbeck, against a german team that was chomping at the bit(playing a makeshift back 3 or 4)

Like someone said if it was arsenal( seriously doubt they could have pulled it off :-) )or chelsea there would have been wanking over them claiming they are world class and what have you. United do it and the club barely gets a mention. That idiot phil thompson(former assistant manager of l'pool) was talking trahs about how he expects us to lose in germay, fuckin wanker!!!

At this point we do need to get the players fit again especially the defenders and continue the winning streak. Ando is becoming the player we all want,Fletcher is immense, evra is amazing, kuzack is top of his game, bring on villa

fze: "However I don’t think any of the ABUs and journos will have much praise over this unexpected win; they’ll be too busy writing up articles as to why ‘Capello must take Owen to the WC’, that’s all they seem to care about"

EXACTLY. Every report I've read so far has wanked on about LittleMikey and Don Fabio - completely overlooking the quite-incredible spirit and fight of a make-shift defence giving up only one away-goal to the Champions of Germany.

As good as LittleMikey was in finishing those three chances, he did have several others, too. But, the man-of-the-match just had to be the GingerNinja who completely controlled the tempo of the game. That was a fucking-awesome display of professionalism. To be sure, he was assisted admirably by Gibson and Anderson whose young legs did the running but Scholes was at his vintage-best.

Nani continued to frustrate and then delight - his cross to LittleMikey was inch-perfect. And, are there any superlatives that can describe Obertan's juking, jiving, and inch-perfect cross for the second goal ? The contributions by those three makes you wonder where Cristiano Ronaldo was tonight. He wasn't missed.

The make-shift defence just about did enough to earn a draw - Wolfsburg's finishing in the opening twenty minutes was dire - but the combined work of the whole team produced an incredible/against-all-odds victory.

Surely this must be one of SAF's most treasured victories as this was a team win - an away win - against a desperate team. It was thrilling entertainment, too.

Costas hmm so the media that season made more asses of themselves by saying that, I wonder how many european cups did that arsenal side win. let me think 0, haha yea greatest side in the world my ass LOL.

so a side fielding (keane scholes beckham giggs van nistlerooy solkjaer) could no longer compete what idiots?. despite the fact united won 3 titles in a row a european cup an fa cup a world club cup that does not seem like a great side.

(oh no only their media darling london clubs like chelsea and arsenal who only had the greatest ever sides, yea haha how many european cups have they won 0, even forest have richer history than the london plastics.

@didnt they also say arsenal will be the greatest in 2004 and arsenal are the future of football, and chelsea will win the league every year since they won it in 2005. but who won it since chelsea won it in 2006 well we all know that.

@rooney the new king : Yep. 2002-2005 was particulary bad when it came to the media's love for Arsenal. But that's what's always great about us. That this type of critisism spurs us on. We bounced back from it in 2003 and then again in 2006 when we lost Ruud. That season they were even predicting United finishing 4th! I hope that this season is no exception.

@costas/ rooney the new king

how can you guys say anything bad about arsenal and the "invincibles?" probably the greatest team of all time (lol!!!) that will be the new dynasty, they will never lose again!

October 24, 2004 - Arsenal's record streak of unbeaten top-flight league matches ends at 49 after a 2-0 away loss to Manchester United!!!!!!!

anytime a london team does anything good, it's like the second coming of jesus! the journos and media are pathetic.

@ denton davey

Spot on. Even though it was Owen who scored all 3 it was a team performance all round. Each player worked their butts off, you could tell they weren't playing for a draw, but playing to top the group. I must say Scholes was phenomenal and the driving force of the midfield, but I would have given MOTM to Little Evra. He was a rock, made numerous crucial blocks and if he was injured too I doubt we would have coped as well as we did yesterday.

Wasn't Pique and Puyol playing? If they were, then I wouldn't their back four in the CL final 'depleted'.
