Louis van Gaal has spoken of his happiness at United’s young players representing England at U-21 level. Whilst other managers have objected to their players being used, the Dutchman thinks the likes of Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Will Keane can benefit from the experience.
Shaw played two games for the U-21s this week whilst Adnan Januzaj, who has committed his long-term future to the club, was an unused sub on the bench for the senior Belgium team.
It is a very good education and an experience not many players can have. As the trainer-coach of this club, I should be very happy that Shaw is playing with the Under-21s. I am very happy he is playing because when he is on the bench, like Januzaj was on the bench, he was on a two-week holiday. That is not a benefit.
