Over the past week, Darren Fletcher has been strongly linked with a move to West Ham. He was in London yesterday to complete his medical and sign the contract.

It has been confirmed today that the deal has fallen through though, with Louis van Gaal revealing that the London club changed their minds, and decided they only wanted him on loan, with the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

I thought Darren was going to sign a contract. But, at the end, they look for a loan and that was not the agreement. I’m only listening to what is now said by West Ham United. There is no agreement. We want to help Fletcher and that is my only concern. I am very happy as a manager that he is coming back. He is my third captain. He is not playing very much, so I want to help him. I don’t know what is happening there, but the agreement was different on Friday. Now, on Saturday, it is off.
