Manchester United had gone 139 corners without a goal this season before Harry Maguire headed United 1-0 up against Leeds on Sunday afternoon.
After going 2-0 ahead, before conceding two goals in seconds, United went on to win 4-2. After the game, captain Maguire took to social media and shared a picture of him celebrating. He dedicated the goal to River, a young United fan with cancer who Maguire had met earlier in the week.
However, upon closer inspection, it was clear that someone else’s face had been photoshopped in to the rabid crowd, who were hurling abuse at Maguire and sticking their fingers up at him.
Maguire has today revealed the story behind the picture.
For everyone asking, it’s my good mate, a big Leeds fan. He was at the ground but not in the pic. He’s been giving us some stick all week so thought I’d add him in.
